  1. I wont buy that unit, thanks again Low.
  2. Does anyone have any thoughts on this product being used as a audiophile grade file server to be connected to high end McIntosh audio equipment? KDLINKS HD720 Extreme FULL HD 1080P 3D HD TV Media Player with HDD Bay, Gigabit Network, Built-In Wifi (Realtek 1186 3D) - Home Products Thanks for your comments in advance.
  3. Just curious if anyone has tried CrystalWolf Audio Player? I have been using it today and found it to have a great sound. This is a stripped down player for only audio with no bells and whistles. It does have a spectrum analyzer................( OK maybe 1 bell :-)
  4. Great sounding player CrystalWolf , This sounds great and is freeware. GUI is simple no fancy bells or whistles. I am playing 96k wav files and love the sound.
  5. $1500 I think at that point Avid Pro tools 10 would be my choice, Never the less this is why i always say IMHO....Now you make a excellent point about the upgrades at no cost. That is very impressive for the amount of time you stated. Hummmmm...I just may take a second look. I thank you both for your share, Because of you I will do a bit more research on HQ Player.
  6. Love the sound but still do not believe $150.00 is justified for such a limited feature set. IMHO ....Overpriced. JRiver will be my choice and I was able to acheive the same sound with JRiver by just applying small manipulations with the EQ .
  7. The DAC1 USB is designed for maximumtransparency and is well suited for criticalplayback in studio control rooms, mastering rooms, and high-end audiophile applications.
  8. IMHO........Are we approaching this correctly ? In my thoughts if i only hear minor differences and my source recording was properly engineered and I have good hardware then every thing is as should be. You do not want a DAC to color your music with it own characteristics you want it to be neutral to add no color to your music. It should have a flat response and low noise so if you dont detect a great change in sound alone or in comparison how about it's because it is doing exactly what it should be doing. IF it corrects your clock issues and creates a bit perfect output it is being a good dac. When you have issues with poor recordings then maybe you will hear a very noticeable difference. I remaster my recordings with AA so a lot of corrections are made there, I dont expect to hear my dac change the sound much from there. I expect it to keep what I put into my power amp bit perfect. And that translates mostly in what you see with the right test equipment . Which will translate into what you hear and in theory that should be subtile changes. DAC's are not EQ's or compressors, reverb units, expanders, imageing devices or any such thing. Seems some are looking for a dac to do what it was never intended to do. IMHO
  9. Also we should mention that the sound you hear from a good DAC is the end result and there are other reasons for the purchase of a seperate standalone DAC. Accurate clocking, jitter, etc...................
  10. In one of my recent audio mags,(2013) they rated the top 500 audio components. When it came to DAC's the ASUS sound card received a "D" , but on the bright side it was the only sound card that even made it in the top 500 so that alone says it is a good component as far as sound cards go. But it can not come close to the performance of a good stand alone DAC. IMHO
