  1. Hi y'all. New to this forum! I've been on Audio Circle for the last year and a half, so you might know me as neekomax over there... I misspelled my screen name registering here, so 'nekomax' it is, I guess. Ha. To the OP, as far as what you propose: I use a Peachtree Decco (original model) as my current DAC/pre in my main hifi setup, and I also have Audioengine P4 speakers in my living room HT system, so I know about these, lil' bit. The Decco is definitely a good product, I recommend it, especially with the better DAC and more power in the 65. As for Audioengine A5+, skip 'em. I like my P4s, so if you're really into the Audioengine stuff, get those, but the powered A5s are not needed for your proposed setup. ....But for your situation, you're gonna want to listen nearfield because of the challenging (echoey) space, and THESE are the ones to listen to: KEF X300A powered speakers. Here's a review: KEF X300A powered speakers. The reasons I recommend them is that their off-axis in room response will be way better than the AEs, plus you get more power than the Decco or the A5+s. They're very similar, in fact, to the award winning $1,500 LS50 monitors that everyone's been freaking out about. My main speakers use the KEF Uni-Q driver, and these are awesome for that very reason- true point source, controlled dispersion= better sound. Get this: Tube Preamplifier with DAC - novaPre | Peachtree Audio, the KEFs, and a good sub, and you'll have a dope nearfield setup. Obviously, this is just what I'D do, so grains of salt all around...
