  1. I try to keep it simple, and as cheap as possible while still getting what I consider to be decent results. - Furutech GT40 ADC. The most expenisve part, but it's a phono stage / ADC / DAC / headphone amp combination so it serves several functions. - Audacity running on Ubuntu. Free to use for both, and the Ubuntu version of Audacity does record in true 24-bit. - ClickRepair. Best $40 I've ever spent, for really good pop/click removal. And it's java based so cross platform. With a used TT, AT440Mla cart and the Furutech it was under 1K overall (not counting the PC of course).
  2. I'm almost finished with my needledrops. I can't speak for any UK originals as I don't have any. But I have done some quick comparisons with the 2009 mono CD's and, in general, I prefer my needledrops. Used my AT440Mla cart and, for the most part, kept it in stereo during cleanup except for the White Album (a bit of surface noise, so I summed to mono for that one). I like the sound of my turntable setup, so I figured this would be the case.
