  1. Hello all, Picked up a Weiss DAC202 with a high end firewire cable as part of the deal. I was going to go the USB/SPDIF route to hook it up to my computer ( Windows laptop w/ no expansion slot ), but since I've got the cable, I thought I would try to use it. I'm not buying a Mac, and my laptop, as stated, has no expansion slot. I've got four USB ports and only using two, so is there a feasible way to come out USB, convert to firewire, and then feed the Weiss DAC202. I don't care if it's a standalone device that does the conversion. It should be a lot cheaper than the USB/SPDIF option. FWIW, Daniel Weiss told me that sonically both inputs are identical, due to the superior jitter rejection of the Weiss DAC202. I wouldn't know. So I'd like to use the firewire option, as long as whatever does the conversions doesn't do any harm to the signal. Can it be done, or should I go the USB/SPDIF route ? As always, thanks in advance for any help or advice. Cheers, Crazy Bill PS. Can't figure out how to get rid of the lines under some of the words. Not in my original text.
  2. That's fifty for the initial license of JRiver, and approx twenty-five or so for each upgrade( if it's been over a year since your last upgrade or initial license ).Worth it ? Absolutely, IMHO. I keep my JRiver current as I like the program. But I'm into it ( gladly ) for over a hundred now. I also keep JPlay at the latest version. I think I've been through at least 7-8 versions. And it hasn't cost me another cent. Your intial purchase entitles you to free upgrades for life. There will come a time when I've spent more on JRiver tham JPlay. Could care less. I need both. AFAIAC, both programs represent tremendous value. What you get from JRiver for fifty bucks ( more if you keep upgrading ), I find w/o peer in computer program costs. IMHO, just the file storage and management capabilities more than justify its cost. The playback engine ( which is very good ) is gravy. JPlay, OTOH, is totally justifed in my view because of the free upgrades and the substantial increase in the sound quality over JRiver. Now this is to my ears on my system, and of course, YMMV. If you hear it different, fine. It's your money. But don't tell me what I should be hearing based upon your thoughts or listening experiences. In the immortal words of George Kennedy " Can't we all just get along ? " Cheers and Happy Holidays, Crazy Bill
  3. Hey guys, Am very seriously considering this unit, but it must be compatible w/ JPlay. I have not found a definitive answer, even on the JPlay forum. Anybody here using JPlay ( mini/hibernate ) with the Teac. as always, thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Crazy Bill
  4. Hello everyone, New to this forum ( diy tube and vinyl guy but decided to take the plunge ). Complete computer dummy. Just purchased the HRT MSHD, and I'm having a couple of issues ( not HRT but application ) that I hope I can sort out. I use an HP Pavilion dv7, Windows7 ( 64bit),Beats Audio soundcard. JRMC17/JPlay for playback. Cardas Clear USB cable ( 1.0 meter ) into the HRT 10 ft Goertz balanced silver Micropurl feeding my Stax headphone rig. Prior to purchasing the HRT I used the internal soundcard, and it did a very good job, but I'm never satisfied. Was going to purchase the new Meridian Explorer, but no one had one. So I did a little research and decided to try the HRT. So far I'm very impressed, but have run into a couple of snags along the way. Had no idea that apparently Windows doesn't support USB2.0. So I can only load the USB1.0 driver and I'm limited to 24/96. I've got a fair amount of 24/192 files, and I can't play them through JPlay, as I guess Asio ignores the JR file conversion and sends the native files to the DAC, which of course it can't play. I can play them through JRiver converted to 24/96, but that isn't even close to JPlay in hibernate mode. So I basically have two questions. Even though my HP says it has two USB2.0 and two USB3.0 ports, I can't load the USB2.0 driver from the HRT so I can get full 24/192 files to the DAC through JPlay. So is there any way that I can get one of those ports to USB2.0 status to get the 24/192 capability ? Barring that, is there free software that someone is aware of that can downconvert the 24/192 files in JRiver, leaving the original file intact and adding the new 24/96 file to the JRiver library ? Or can JRiver do that ( I haven't been able to find the way if it can ). thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Crazy Bill
