  1. Wrong! Red make exactly the same things and is a standalone streamer… upnp, Roon… all is the same, and Red give hqplayer, hdmi i2s output, linear power supply for 1/3 of the price of u2 mini, it’ s the reality and I had both at home at the same time. LUMIN give the app, the dsd conversion of pcm more, and it can sound better than the red with a good power supply (the Red is not perfect, and the U2 mini is not too).
  2. Yes. And if you want a better result than a commercial FMC, use a Sonore Optical Module on the Streamer side.
  3. 200$ components… not 200$ for the final customer. Making money with the X1 power supply is a choice, have a look inside ans tell me it can’t be a normal option with the U2 at its price point compared to U2 power supply. And if it cost some R&D to elaborate the X1 power supply, some years later it cost nothing more and can be fitted to other lumin gears like U2. Only choices…. And at the end I think like Patatorz: to make money with this X1PSU, Lumin lose the right fit between the products and the power supply, although they have a good solution with X1 power supply that cost no R&D today.
  4. It's a bit sad (in terms of R&D and integration of progress made) if the U2, which appeared a long time after the U1 and the X1's power supply, is a less good streamer than the U1 accompanied by a 200$ components power supply and umbilical…. Ultimately it wouldn't just be a little sad but a lot. Sorry for this somewhat brutal return to earth 😅.
  5. @Miska I am a volunteer of course, with Holo Red and N05-XD at home.
  6. @wklie Being amazed of that is not a wrong judgement, it’s just a fact that usb audio is not plug and play for the end user who just want to listen to music … not to enter Kernel in a linux distribution to add a Dac ID to make a native DSD flow possible 😁. Who is responsible of that between the receiver or the sender should not be the end user problem 😶‍🌫️😇
  7. 🤪 Indeed if it's not to have a direct DSD 512 and have to switch from DSD256 to DOP, I might as well stay in network playback... but I'll still try RED with HQplayer in usb on the Esoteric, having already installed NAA OS on it. I remain quite amazed that in our time a usb input from a Japanese brand like TEAC or Esoteric is not able to be configured to know how to communicate with other machines natively... not this kind of mockery with my Holo May for example... 🧐😶‍🌫️
  8. It would be a great, constructive thing for everyone to have, as was the case with Leedh Processing, NAA and Diretta integration let's be crazy.... in Lumin integrated and OEM products 😜 It would above all be technically coherent to have these tools integrated in network reading, short internal i2s links, rather than having to remain on an intrinsically less efficient usb audio link. The network card integrated into this TEAC and Esoteric are identical, just like the dac cards of the UD701 and N05XD are nearly the same.
  9. Thanks a lot for your answer @Miska. The thing that I wanted to show and that I don’t understand is here. In NOS mode, how the analog low pass post-filter can let some 44 and 88khz noise appear at -40db? it's almost like an absence of low pass filter no? What kind of analog low pass filter can let some 44 and 88khz signal appear at -40db? 😅
  10. Hi Miska, I use HQplayer with a Holo May and understand why HQplayer is a good choice with it, but here I try to understand … The measurements are made on the analog outputs of the TEAC? How can we have peaks on these frequencies with the low pass filter shown by the manufacturer on his layout diagram before the analog stage? It seems impossible at least for the first graph, no? And how can we make the link between these artifacts and the impact in the audible levels and frequencies? Having an Esoteric N05XD very close to the TEAC, I noticed like others the positive impact of sending DSD 512 or less to it, including by Roon's Muse engine on its network part, and you seem to make a direct causal link between these inaudible artifacts and the quality gain when listening, hence my neophyte questions 😅 Thank you for your response, Nicolas.
  11. I know some original devices, and not amplifiers…. maybe just a well known ethernet switch for example, on which we could make fried eggs without burning the audiophile fuse present in the power supply 🍳😋
  12. A function that a Lumin would never have been able to perform....
  13. I suppose it’s for a small Lumin, not a S1 or X1. The X1 already have an original top noch dc cable. 1.5m is very, very, very high for a dc cable. The power supply regulators and capacitors should be as closed from the Lumin as possible, or the dc cable as short as possible. The only Gotham quality for me is the star quad internal arrangement of the wires, the weakness is the basic touching multitrand wires under PVC insulation. So I prefer make my own DC cables from single core wires under teflon insulation (silver or occ copper) or Duelund DCA wires (tined copper is a better choice with multistrand wires), all in a star quad configuration. Regards, Nicolas.
  14. Just tested shuffle and repeat functions on Engineered card, it works fine. 👍
