I was thinking to use this cable and cut it to 6 inches. Then solder a new USB A connector to data leads inside the shield as depicted in above link. Power lines can be separated and soldered to another connector. http://www.usbfirewire.com/Parts/rr-abr05-24.html#RR-ABR05-12G Will this give rise to an impedance issue?

I am a head Fi supremus member who has very good DIY skills. I was keen on making a USB cable separating data/power with silver wire and making it as short as possible. I don't think the price of Gemini cable justifies the improvement one gets from it. However there is a concern about 90ohm impedance of the cable. What do you think? It is better to build the cable from the scratch using the silver wire or modify a cable like Belkin using a technique like here ? [DIY] TNT 221 USB Y-cable [English]
