  1. I tested OneDrive upload speeds earlier today. Twice, in fact. Two-word conclusion: awfully slow. That's basically what everyone else here who has tried it has been saying, so no surprise. With my 1.5MB/second connection, a 1.8GB file took around 75 minutes to reach 8%--at which point I gave up. I tried both Mountain Lion and Windows 8.1 with the same results. I visited Microsoft's OneDrive forum, only to find out large numbers of users complaining about upload speed. Cloud backup for my music library will have to wait. I'll keep up the HD routine for the time being. - Robert
  2. Hi Larry. You're paying $200+/month for 60M/12M and Comcast wants more than twice that for "slightly" faster upload ? That's insane. 300M/200M plans here go for around $50/month. That's top shelf. Most plans go for much less than that. My current plan is 120M/12M, and that's $25/month. - Robert
  3. The way I worked it out, 1TB = 1,000GBs. That might be my mistake. Isn't 1TB a thousand GBs ? I see my mistake: I get 54GBs/10 hours, not 540 ! - Robert
  4. I have the same upload speed you have: '12M' they call it. That's 1.5MBs/second > 90MBs/minute > 900MBs/10 minute > 5.4GBs/hour > 540GBs/10 hours. Depends on everything working as advertised. Not always the case. But if you have a decent ISP, I'd say you'd be able to upload about 1TB every day. That's not too bad. I think if it works out fine at Microsoft's end, then for a second 'security' music library backup, it'd be great. - Robert
  5. Currently, my upload speed is the same as astroboy (above post)--1.5MBs/second. That's roughly 90MBs/minute. Assuming everything's in ideal condition--a huge assumption when it comes to ISPs--it'd take an hour to upload 5.4GBs. So around 20 hours to upload 1TB. Unless I'm completely off, that doesn't seem too extravagant. In any case, I can buy a better plan and get 60M or even 100M upload speeds. It's available here now for around $20/month. So not a problem. Now, how fast things are at the other end is what I'm worried about. I should try it out sometime tomorrow, I think. Depends. I have 4 or 5 things all going at once, so ... I'll come back with my findings. - Robert
  6. Got a reply from Microsoft yesterday. I now have 10TB storage. I'll test upload speed sometime this weekend I hope. - Robert
  7. I'm with wwaldmanfan and elcorso. I haven't tried 2.0.4--it was near the beginning, 2.0.1 I think. 2.0.1 worked fine for the most part. The thing is I don't need library management. 2.0.1 looked to me like another iTunes. I don't want it. I love the sound of 1.5.10 and I also love the on-screen 'player'. That's all I need. If Damien ever considers a 'classic' version of 2.x--i.e. one without library management--that sounds even better I would most definitely upgrade. - Robert
  8. I use two 4-bay Mediasonic Probox HF2-SU3S2 enclosures for music backup. At the time I bought them, they were spec'd to work with just about any 3.5" drives up to 4TB. The other day, I emailed Mediasonic asking whether 6TB drives would be compatible with my enclosures, and they said the HF2-SU3S2 worked fine with drives up to 6TB without any need for firmware upgrade. So I went ahead and tried a WD Green 6TB drive in one of them and it works perfectly. So I'll eventually get more of those 6TB drives and be done for a while with a couple of 24TB enclosures for music backup. Next step will be to try a pair of 6TB drives in my WD Thunderbolt Duo. I'd say just try it in your Newertech enclosure. Robert
  9. I'll check it out. I'm an Office 365 subscriber, so getting unlimited cloud storage at no charge is absolutely great. And if upload speeds do get better, that'll replace my second music backup. - Robert
  10. I've never tried backing up music to the cloud, but that's my fear as well. I'm getting very close to 10TBs of music and would love cloud storage for backup, but if it's going to take (close to) a year to get it up there what's the point ? Anyone knows if there's reason to believe this issue will get resolved in the near future ? One would think it should. - Robert
  11. Hi, I currently use two daisy-chained WD Thunderbolt Duos for my music library. One has 2 x 3TB drives in it; the other 2 x 2TB. The drives are all WD Green. I'm quickly running out of space. I know I could use 4 x 4TB drives to bring capacity up to 16TBs, but at the rate my library is growing, that won't last very long--I still have thousands of CDs and LPs to rip/transfer. Has anyone tried 6TB Green drives in a Thunderbolt Duo ? If I could get 4 of these to work in my system it would be great. Robert
  12. Just a quick note to say I finally opted for the 4TB version as well. It got here earlier today. This thing is dead silent. Couldn't be happier. Robert
  13. Hi tranz, I'm very happy to read this. I've been considering a WD Tbolt Duo 8TB for a while now, but was curious about noise levels. Is yours an 8TB model ? Robert
  14. Hi leeperry, I'm curious about the Kingrex. Any findings so far ? Do you like it ? Thanks. Robert
  15. Greetings one and all, First post on here. I'm a brand new member of the SACD project. I acquired a compatible PS3 earlier today and started archiving shortly thereafter following Ted's superb primer 3.0 (link in post #1064 above). I want to thank Mr. Wicked and Ted for all the work involved. This is nothing short of marvellous. All the best, Robert
