  1. pardon my ignorance, but how exactly does one use bacch with the MU1? I've spent a bit of time on their site and understand signal flow pretty well, but i'm wondering how the Grimm's playback processing goodness fits into the audio interface environment they would have you set up. thanks in advance
  2. forgive my ignorance on this, but does MU1 into LS1be operate at 4fs?
  3. I wouldn't call the MU1 "hardware." It's a lot of software. I wouldn't say that Roon is inherently sonically bad. It is chronically bad. I don't know if we know for sure if Grimm was trying to solve the Roon problem, but it's reasonable to think they might have been able to interrupt, circumvent or otherwise improve the deleterious things (which Roon themselves won't even acknowledge exist relative to sonic quality) in the Roon environment. I've been comparing Roon to in-built players like MPD for several generations of end points, and Roon always sounds like Roon. Does it have to? I'm not sure, but I think Roon themselves won't be of any help.
  4. at the beginning of the MU1 saga, the selling proposition seemed to be in part that the MU1 tech would overcome the inherent (and obviously audible) sonic disadvantages of Roon. Since Grimm has announced upcoming support for other players, I think many of us are waiting for a potential other shoe to drop should those other options sound better than Roon, proving that Roon is just inherently and irredeemably flawed sonically. If we find this to be the case, I won't be in any way disappointed with my purchase of the MU1. Even with Roon, it's buggy database, poor handling of metadata and pathetic support, I have so much more fully enjoyed music since its purchase. I got a nice deal on a used one, but I'd easily spend the money for a new one.
  5. i’m looking forward to bypassing roon on the mu1
  6. I think you forgot the terrible service and support 😂
  7. The most exciting thing for me in the update is the prospect of dumping Roon
  8. wireless per the promos i've seen today
  9. what mechanism of action explains a difference in sound between control points?
  10. I think they will have their own non Roon player (eg MPD) to use in the upnp environment as well as tidal connect. There was a post here previously about it. I’m looking forward to this.
  11. i'm curious how the transparent XL Gen 5 I use compares with the sablon. It's been a long time since it was reviewed, though the review was pretty stellar.
  12. the most obvious product change that i'm aware of was the addition of the SPDIF RCA output. I got one without it on the used market and have had no trouble, and I knew I would never need RCA digital connections. the savings was to me worth it, and it was an easier decision process than the rather unwieldy experience i had with a couple of retail dealers with whom i tried to get home demos (that said, I understand changes to the dealer network structure are up on us). The MU1 is a marvelous piece of gear. It will be one of those pieces that I won't be compelled to swap out for a very long time.
  13. Anybody know when this new firmware with the new (non Roon) player will be offered?
  14. The most objectionably colored one was the triode wire labs. The Lessloss to me sounds like there’s nothing in the way.
  15. regular. i had to make a compromise because i ended up with 6 cables :P
