  1. Unfortunately, this is a sign of the times, whereby older workers are targeted so that younger, lower cost workers can be hired. The same thing happened to me, after working for over 30 yrs. at a well known semiconductor company here on the East coast. But everything worked out well for me and you realize how easy it is to reduce your living expenses and still enjoy our hobbies. Good luck John, and we look forward to more outstanding products from Uptone.
  2. I also have to get up enough nerve to do the surgery to install the MMK. I woke up at 3:27AM and actually read the 11 page instructions. I had already visited the iFixit.com site to view the photographs and text assistance. That was intimidating enough. I had to read Alex's (?), John's (?) instructions just to go back to sleep. So I am experiencing an odd juxtaposition between dread (smile) and excitement and a distant voice on (which side of my shoulder) whispering "if you don't f**kitup". (Still smiling.) HELP! Richard, I just spent many hours yesterday installing the MMK kit on my 2012 MAC Mini. It all went smoothly, but take your time and do not hurry. Make sure you keep track of all the screws for each component and have good lighting. Be careful on the connectors on the board that Alex warns you about, just lift the connecting cables by the wires and use the plastic tool that is in tool kit. I happen to have some further documentation from Apple that I can forward to you if you'd like, it is in pdf format. Good luck, Tony
  3. Hi, Just wondering why you decided to plug the CyberPower into the Bp-35 and not the other way around, with the CyberPower plugged into the wall. Is this what BP recommends? I have a CyberPower on order and was going to plug my isolation transformer into it and then my audio sources into the transformer. Not sure if this is the best way. Thanks for any suggestions.
  4. I have a yggy with just 30 hrs. on it. It sounds good so far but will reserve judgement till it's been on for a week. I will compare it to two other R2R Dacs that I have, Theta DSPro Gen VA and Sonic Frontiers SFD-2, MkII.
  5. I have read that also but don't find it to be true in my case. I would recommend the Wyrd if you are using the USB input, seems to smooth out the sound and add a bit of detail. Also, it takes a few hundred hrs. before sounding really good. Great value as Schiit products are known for.
  6. Yes, I have this exact setup. Works very well. I also have LCD-2's with a balanced cable which also works well. There are used G/M's over at headfi, fyi.
  7. I'd like to think this is "normal" behavior as we are always trying to find that new listening experience. The digital side of this hobby is changing so quickly. Having said that, I just bought my 4th DAC, although it is 20 yrs old... Enjoy.
  8. Just to let you know, I ordered the 12v/2A supply from Pardo for my QuteHD and just specified the 2.1mm connector in the PayPal remarks. It all works well with no issues. It took about two weeks to be delivered from time of order, most of which was the shipping time to here in the USA.
  9. Elberoth, I've been using this exact setup with an AP2/wPP to the SPDIF input on the Qute for several months now. I think you will be very pleased with the results. I find it just gets better as everything settles in. Enjoy.
  10. I just received a Decware Taboo MkIII for my LCD-2's after a 10 week wait. It is a work of art and breaking in beautifully. Handmade in USA. I would recommend it for Planar headphones.
  11. DVDFab can do this. Perhaps others, like AnyDVDHD can also. You have to try them or look up on their forums to see what users have done. Some pgms give a free 30 day trial, so you can test them out. There are many pgms out there, just search for Blu-Ray rippers or copy. I play high def BluRay iso's using JRiver with no issues. I believe there is a forum topic about this on the JRiver web site.
  12. Ripping Blu-Ray discs is possible with software available on the web. I use DVDFAB, which works well and tries to keep up with all the latest copy protection schemes. However, it can be a complicated issue, due to all the different copy protection schemes, the actual Blu-Ray disc date of production, as newer movies have better protection. Many software players are available as well, which can play various formats, mkv, m2ts, or iso files, etc. If you have ripped just the main movie to save space, you have removed all the menu header info and can just play the movie, I believe the chapters can be forwarded thru, but you don't have the nice user interface menu. You can use a proper Blu-Ray player, like Cyberlink, and if you have ripped the whole disc, the user menu interface will work just like a normal DVD player. The only problem is that all the new versions have the cinavia copy protection enabled, so the audio will dropout after 30 min. or so, if the disc is encoded that way. This is why it is often better to get an older player (hardware or software) which does not have this enabled. Check out all the forums on this, like at AVS forum as there is a tons of info about doing this. There is no simple answer, as you have many different options to try. Regards.
  13. I use the Black Cat Silverstar 75, which has BNC ends and comes with two BNC/RCA adapters, in a 1.2m length only. Don't forget about Take Five Audio. I also have the NeoTech NEVD-2001 75 Ohm cable. It can be ordered in any length with BNC or RCA connectors at a reasonable price. Take Five Audio - Canada's Online Source For DIY Audio, Parts and Accessories - Neotech NEVD-2001 BNC Digital Cable Cryo Treated Thanks.
  14. I posted a while back that I use the Teddy Pardo 12v/2amp PS with the QuteHD with very good results. I also think it sounds very good with the stock SMPS. If you look inside the window, you can see a three terminal device attached to the chassis for the heat sink. I've got to believe that the designers knew what they were doing and included a regulator to improve the supply for the DAC from the SMPS. As has been said before, it's getting that last 10-20% improvement that takes so much experimenting. By the way, the QuteHD uses a 2.1mm plug. Regards, Tony
