  1. Less bummed bout the memory now. I looked it up on the crutial website and its not correct for either my mini or MacBook Pro. should have started with that step..... still works though.
  2. Im a little bummed that mountain lion and the EFI firmware update didn't solve my memory problem. however,... The system does seems to be working better with ML and the 6GB. and,... I put ML on my MacBook Pro which now has 6GB also due to the mix up. Seems the extra memory comes even more in handy on the laptop. so,.. Can't complain.
  3. That notion didn't last long. I bought Mountain Lion and I'll see if the updated EFI firmware 1.5 will help with my memory installation problem. It's Apple's fault for selling a great OS for $19.99 .... Curse them !!!!
  4. It's working fine. the EFI firmware update that I can download after upgrading to ML does affect memory. evidence is the capacity for memory goes from 8 to 16 with the EFI update. i think it may help,.... Just hesitant to throw that $20 now as I've been freely spending and my kids want the life of pi movie and the hobbit and so on and so forth..... anyways,... Still happy,
  5. Hi, Tried to upgrade the RAM to 8 per lots of suggestions. Have to settle for 6 for now. I bought Crucial from Amazon. After struggling with it, I thought one of the boards was bad and exchanged it. After getting the new kit, Same problems. Both boards work as long as you don't use them together. With both you just get beeps. I have googled this and it's common. Some people solve it with PVRAM zap. That didn't work for me. So now my Mini has a 4 and a 2. I will retry the 8 config after updating the FW but I believe I need Mountain Lion before I can apply that update. -Brian

    BitPerfect

Hi, I'm new here and new to Computer Audio. I want to say thanks for BitPerfect. It's price made it un-resistable but it's performance makes it essential. I haven't even tried other solutions but I'm in not hurry now as I think I bet on the right horse from the start. I should try to get someone to help me setup a double blind test but I'm convinced that BitPerfect significantly helped my itunes playback. Timing seemed off for regular itunes to the extent that it sounded like a data stream instead of music. It's hard to describe that but the difference was immediate and clear. -Brian
  7. It would have been worse to spill hot coffee on a person or animal. I can't remember the movie where the guy was bringing breakfast in bed to his newly wed wife and trips on the rug throwing the tray and severely burning half her face. It was sort of funny and sort of WOW.
  8. ok, I can max the Ram for $48 and I can't fill up my gas tank for that much. So,... I'll go ahead with that. That will also double my macbook pro ram because I borrowed the 4 from there leaving it with 2 from the mac mini. (Confusing enough phrasing there? ... ) As for the rest of the system ... it's not high end I know that. I use a Denon 1912 AVR and it feeds a 7.1 system consisting of Paradigm Titans, CC-170 and PDR 10. It's all in very small dedicated home theater room which I built myself. (There's a 1080p SXRD front projector as well... I watch a lot of Blu Rays.) So audio is those bookshelf speakers and sub when it comes to 2 channel. If I listen to my only SACD (Dark Side of the Moon) or my only Blu Ray Audio Disc (Wish You Were Here) then I use my Blu Ray player and surround system. Thanks Again, -Brian edit - When I use headphones it's either Sony V6 or some high tech headphones my wife bought me. They have hearing protection built in. You know the earbuds look like ear plugs. They aren't noise canceling but they are (outside) noise reducing. I like them. (Though,... they tend to remind me if I have any ear wax currently... ha.)
  9. David, Thank you and cheers. Larryken, Thank you too. I'm open to upgrades though I just did a few and lots of Blus are being released that I'm focused on just now. I believe Mountain Lion is cheap. It does remove "Interger" mode so some people actually roll back to Snow Leopard. I just happened to have Snow Leopard which is why I use it. I'll try the demo of Audrivana (I think there is one) and I'll try the demo of Pure Music. I was waiting till I had settled in a bit and got tuned into what I have so that I can tell what the difference is. My Mini can do the 8GB and there is a very tempting sale on 8Gb at my local Best Buy currently. I ran system analyst though and found I was using half the 4GB I currently have. I will continue to consider maxing it out though. 8 is the limit (apparently) and ~$50 can solve that item at some point. If I outgrow my 500GB media drive, I'll try to go Firewire for the next one so that whenever I want an outboard DAC, I won't have to share the USB bus. -Brian
  10. Hi, This is my second post,... I'm new here. I am just getting started with Computer Audio and I love it so far. Here's a bit of where I am, Hardware - Mac Mini 2010 (Headless op), 4GB RAM, System Drive 32GB SSD with trim enabled (8GB used), Media Drive 500GB external USB 3.0, Using Built in Optical Output. Software - Snow Leopard, Itunes, BitPerfect, SuperDuper, Roomie Remote Tweaks - All media is Apple Lossless files, Home Sharing is OFF, Software updates is OFF, IR reciever is OFF, BlueTooth is OFF, Time Machine is OFF, Integer Mode is on, Power Saving is dis-abled. I use screen sharing with my Macbook or Macbook pro to manage and tune and update the library. I use Roomie Remote to playback the media. I also use Roomie for my Blu Ray Player for videos. I don't have a NAS and I don't have Video files. For video, I just use Physical Media not media server type of things. Currently my audio library is under 100GB. I back up both the system disc and the media disc. So this is me. I'm here to learn. I'm convinced there is no end to the upgradability in this type of project and look forward to changes. -Brian
  11. Hi, (New member,... Just getting started with mac mini computer audio system) I use Roomie Remote which has a great itunes control interface. It may not meet the "best" criteria but I also use it to control the rest of my gear so it's convenient in that regard.
