  1. A month ago, I had a pair of Luxman interconnects on the Musette which were quite revealing and perhaps little on the bright side, they sounded great on the warmish Rega DAC, but had a feeling wasn't a good match with the Musette. Anyway, as i'm not into buying expensive interconnects and prefer basic copper cables, I stumbled across rave reviews for the Chord C-Line. They are quite inexpensive and found them to be a perfect match with the musette.
  2. not as yet, but have tried JRiver's up-sampling. much preferred without, pure NOS.
  3. yep, experienced what you have during the break in. on many occasions I nearly put it up for sale and re-bought a Rega. but glad I stuck with it. give it at least 1.5 to 2 months to bloom. still recommend a Schiit Wyrd, or something similar, hard time listening to a DAC without it now, sounds more organised.
  4. Thanks for explanation Jud. I got myself confused with SSRC.
  5. The Rega DACs do oversample, hence the filter selection, you need to oversample to use those filters. What Rega means here, is they don't upsample prior to oversampling like some dacs do or allow you to do - i.e. 44.1 to 192k
  6. Glad you get that, too. I agree, I love the naturalness of the Musette, love it. You'll DEFINITELY be rewarded in a month to 2 months of use, it really opens up, and much more impressive. it will go through a roller coaster of sounding bland and dry, then good, then bland etc... give it time. I no longer crave listening to vinyl.
  7. ...forgot to mention, the Musette is quite sensitive to vibration, if not properly supported, it can sound muddled. I stuck one piece of Aluminium backed Butyl sound damping material, like what you find in cars, to cover 60% of the top inside of Musette's case cover. worked well. But any more than that made it sound too dead. Metrum use similar approach on the Hex, using bitumen adhesive sound deadening on the inside of the case cover.
  8. Did you mean Rega DAC, here? the DAC-R is the newer version with remote and 192khz USB. I didn't find the Rega DAC-R at all sleepy, either. Perhaps 'cuddly', easy on the ear, maybe a better description. It did PRaT very well, especially filter 3 'Apodizing' (filter 5 on the older version). It's detailed without ever being analytical. A rounded fat bass, not over the top, just enough to give some obvious warmth and body to the music. Mids are expressive, nice bite, pleasant, musical. Highs also had a nice bite to them, but never strident. Sound-stage is quite wide and very holographic, deep enough. All in all the Rega is a joy to listen to, and could keep listening to for hours. For the money, I can't fault it and doubt there's better. To be honest, I sometimes miss it, it had been my favourite DAC up to that point and never left me wanting... until curiosity crept in and the need to hear what the NOS hype was all about... Rega compared to the Musette - The Musette definitely has more PRaT, very quick. Has the odd ability to sound both relaxed and upbeat. Musette is dynamic, macro and micro, perhaps best I've heard. Sound-stage is deep, not too wide or narrow, believable, I can't fault it. Bass is taught and defined, but has just enough body that never makes it sound thin. Midrange is my favourite, open and expressive, sits perfectly, bass and treble hang off it beautifully. The highs are, I'd say, musical, never harsh, a little soft, they sparkle rather than sting, vacuum tube like, very easy on the ear. The only criticism is the ability to hold up with complex music, the Rega wins here, but by no means does it become a cacophony, it just gets a little lost in the mix, but still remains relaxed and very pleasant on the ear--The Schiit Wyrd USB interface helped a lot in this regard, but still not perfect. Both Rega and Musette do music very well, both are not Hi-Fi hyped artificial, both connect emotionally rather than heady. It's music first. So, my choice between Rega and Musette? I'd choose the Musette, but be quiet content with the Rega, too.
  9. Trappy. Do you have anything between the PC and Musette, i.e. USB power filtering, etc?
  10. Congrats on the new DAC! Had my Musette for 3 months now, and love it. I'd describe it as quick, very musical, great soundstage depth, lush, dynamic, non fatiguing, and just a lot of fun to listen to. It's a bit darker and warmer than other DACS I've had, but that's my cup of tea. It took about 5 weeks to open up, even after 2 months of everyday use, it seemed to get better, out of the box it sounded a bit dry. Like most DACs, adding a Schiit Wyrd, what I'm using now, or Regen will bring out the detail and clean things up a bit. Also found that Chord Silver plus USB cables did better than Audioquest and Wireword entry level cables. Enjoy the new DAC!
  11. Spread spectrum creates jitter to the computer's clock to 'spread spectrum' to cut down EMI. Disabling it in bios, to my ears, has been much better than being on. Been building computers for past 15 years, and always buy motherboards that allow a user option to disabled spread spectrum, as some don't. most important tweak.
  12. Thanks for the link! Seems they've now fixed original link I posted earlier, too. USB drivers working well.
  13. New Mac and WINDOWS USB and FIREWIRE drivers... https://mytekdigital.com/hifi/products/stereo-192dsd-dac/ Seems the new Windows USB driver link is dead at present, but perhaps will be active soon. Is great to see a new Mytek Windows USB driver is around..
  14. New firmware v1.8.1 dated April 14 2014. Stereo 192 DSD-DAC - Mytek Digital no news as to what's been tweaked, fixed, or added
