  1. @ shinyc would you mind to describe the differences you heard between single and dual PC? Just use your own words and I try to read between the lines. I ask for this because sometimes the harsher more digital sounding system (but at the same time more transparent and more open) is the right one for me to deal with in terms of my tuning. gui p.s. If you can try PL. It's really worth 'playing' with this tool. p.p.s. just PM me if you don't want to spoil the thread
  2. So at least I'm not deaf and only make them differences up 🙂 Phil, is it your finding that WASAPI with AO is even better (or different) in WS2019 than in previous versions of AO/OS or is it just the same as in WS2016/2012/W10 and it's only other things in WS2019 that makes it sound better than all other Windows-OS before? WASAPI wasn't on my list before but is now a big (+) for me when speaking of SQ AND simplicety and I see overlaps (at least SQ related) with competitors like JplayFemto and others. If it's difficult to speak openly that's ok and fine with me, but I'd like to know what do you prefer in your system at the moment... WASAPI straight/JplayFemto-ASIO/WASAPI or any other combination? I'm just looking for the most transparent/resolving sound ever...even if it's a little harsh or digital sounding in your system (I can handle/get rid of that with my unique tuning)...but maybe it's better to discuss this topic on Munich HighEnd fair 😉 gui
  3. @magicknow I use Process Lasso and Fidelizer Pro and both add to the game. With both of them and AO3.0 b38 on WS2019 GUI (Roon-shell) the WASAPI output in Roon has definitely overtook JplayFemto's ASIO/KS by giving more precision/transparency/rhythm/air...just everything to the music. All these attributes I kept in favor for JplayFemto last October when I installed it... I'm still in surprise about what happend now and perhaps Phil can leave some words here on how the WASAPI implementation in AO 3.0 does something special (or if AO does anything at all to WASAPI?) compared to 'normal' WASAPI without AO? Is there less processing in WASAPI than in ASIO? What's exactly the difference between the two? I know that's an old discussion but I still don't know and I think Phil can clarify the technical terms that might be of interest here. Phil? gui
  4. I installed B38 over B37 (on WS2019 GUI single PC) while in shell replaced mode (Roon server shell) with serivices still disabled. I had no AO-shortcuts before on desktop and didn't get shortcuts after update to B38. I only checked by opening Task Manager (while in shell replaced mode)...opened explorer and checked desktop folder...I did not load full GUI. If this is of any help...? BUT I made a big finding by chance after installing B38 by comparing a Roon-Server sound to JplayFemto/HifiCast sound on my system (WS2019 GUI, single PC, shell replacement, local music files over USB to Matrix Audio X-SPDIF2 over AES/EBU to Devialet 200 (mod.)). Before there was a big difference in favour of JplayFemto. Now I recognised a big difference in favour of Roon. I've to say that I've set all settings to extreme in Jplay settings (UltraStream, KS: X-SPDIF2, 1000Hz, Hibernate ON) and I was only able to go to 1000Hz with the help of the MA X-SPDIF 2. I never had such a transparent, natural, speedy fast, big stage, sounding system before JplayFemto. I tried Roon roughly a year ago and compared it to Foobar/Jplay 6.2 at the time but Roon had no chance in terms of SQ. It was too dull/cloudy, not transparent and very lush and uncontrolled in bass. Now this time in Roon (on B38 WASAPI) I used the output 'X-SPDIF2 WASAPI' to my Matrix Audio converter (clock) and by choosing this output it changed the whole game. Lots of transparency, airy stage, speed and precision came to the picture. I liked it very much and I was wondering if I fool myself, because due to my experience the bigger and more extensive the control app was (...and Roon is BIG) the less involving the music came out (w/ attributes see above). In Roon I now started to turn off every setting that tends to interrupt/count or do anything in the background you don't need when only listening to music...and yes... 'every thing (bit) counts...' You simply hear it when the controll software doesn't have to 'work' in the background...I'm still confused here because I assume Roon to be much more industrious in the background than Jplayfemto but still Roon sounds more detailed, calm, dynamic and the like when using the WASAPI output. So my question is. Did AO 3.0 in conjunction with WS2019 change the picture when it comes to comparing SQ of ASIO (Jplay) to WASAPI (Roon) output? Any suggestion Phil? Why is it? One thing I also recognised is the importance of 'Process Lasso' in this game. My PC is only Dual Core but nonetheless I moved all audio processes to core 1 and everything else to core 0 in Process Lasso (and ticked all other prios for audio processes). But it wasn't until I moved the process 'processreaper' to core 1 that Roon made a big leap in SQ. 'processreaper' belongs to Roon what I didn't know before and I still wonder that isolating a single process like this to one core makes such a big difference in SQ (for good SQ 'processreaper' has to be on the same core as Roon server so). Talking AO 3.0 the last Beta (B38) is the best in SQ. Very natural...very nice Phil...congrats. The precision (and every aspect that comes along with it) of music is unmatched. It's a pleasure to dive into the music with AO3.0. Hope to see you on the HighEnd fair in Munich. Which booth do you have? my sympathy, gui
  5. Phil, I updated from B34 to B36...you did it again. What an increase in speed and density to the sound. Slope of dynamics and attack have improved a lot. Dynamic impulses in electronic music (e.g. Trentemöller) are so aggressively fast on the D200...it's scary...if you don't know the song you're twitching and dodging in your chair before the synths would eventually hit you 😉 Very, very nice. I can't wait for B36 to settle a bit and become more of an ease over the next days of playing. One drawback after installation of B36 on single PC/WS2019/gui (shell replaced) the WiFi (just for controling app) had some glitches (no internet). Had to be rebooted several times and JPlayFemto service was down (not booting). I'd to reinstall JPlayFemto once and reset the UPNP app (HiFi Cast). After that everything was working as normal. AOb36: SUCCESSFUL OS: Single Audio PC: Windows Server 2019 Essentials (yet) GUI Shell replaced DAC/DDC: Matrix Audio X-SPDIF 2 , Devialet D200 Driver/Version: latest original Matrix Audio XMOS Need to press F8: NO Player: JPlayFemto KS working: YES (stable at '1000Hz', Hibernate 'On' in JPlaySettings) WASAPI working: N/A Needed HD Audio Driver: NO gui
  6. Hey Phil, I started the Beta program with 31 and updated yesterday to 32. Wow...I've to say that this is a big step in SQ from 31 to 32. The precision is unmatched. My feeling is that the better AO gets the more precise the digital signal gets the more the acustic patterns fall into the right place just like in the Tetris game the holes are filled with the original information of music...to the right place at the right time. The spacial mapping is fabulous. The music is more precise in every aspect. It's sweeter in the highs, bass is shorter and more dynamic, transparency and the speed of dynamic increase are so much better. Even less oscillation of the music signal at start and end of an impulse than in Beta 31...every tone is more dense in itself (see the Tetris analogy)...very, very nice. Thanx and keep on... gui
