Hello - I have been using the MyDac only for SPDIF for a few months. I bought it to see if I wanted a dac in the system. I figured I could use it for usb later on if I bough another dac. But, I was so surprised by what I heard, I decided to see how much sound I could squeeze from it.
I use a cryoed C7/C14 adapter with some of my better power cords. I use decent SPDIF cabling. I even tried a Myrtle block on top of the unit. I keep getting better sound with the changes I make. People who listen don't believe it is the MyDac until I show them. I am reluctant to purchase another dac until I am sure it is a real step up. Until then, I am just havng fun with it.
As far as noise, I barely hear a faint whine from the unit itself - not from the speakers.
While I would not call the MyDac bright, I would not use it in a lean sounding system or use a brighter balanced cable or ac cord.
