  1. Are there any better MPD players than Maximum MPD or Stylophone? (I believe they are called "clients") I'm talking about a player that is used on an iPad or phone Both the above have drawbacks Maxlmum MPD frequently has to be reconnected to the Mercury, the database updated (takes about an hour) before you can choose any files and play them Stylophone displays artwork. But it cannot handle DSD files and crashes Have tried MPD Pilot. Very simple Maybe I am looking in the wrong direction for a player for Gentoolinux on an iPad?
  2. Thanks The Mercury V2 is misbehaving. Using Maximum MPD, it stops playing after 30 mins. Pressing PAUSE and PLAY restarts it, but only for a minute or two There is a 4Tb SSD attached
  3. Does Gentooplayer operate with a Mercury version 3? Thank you?
  4. Yes, you do have a point, it was just an observation There are 4 for sale advertised this year on Hi-Fi Shark and one dated July 2023 The DAC that we went to listen to recently runs so hot that you cannot comfortably rest your hand on it. He is enquiring with the SA agent to find out if this is normal. If you get close to it you can smell it Its terrifically expensive here, 50% more than a Devialet 220
  5. Oehlbach Silverline 2.5mm diameter silver plated cable. 8gm/kg 1000 silver content. 7% more conductive than copper. Made and sold in Germany Twin speaker cable insulated with transparent PET daflon. This speaker cable is suitable for amplifiers up to ± 200 watts per channel. The use of silver-plated oxygen-free copper (OFC) as the conductive material produces exceptionally clear sound. The use of silver helps to improve the reproduction of the treble. The cable contains 120 x ultrafine silver-plated stranded copper wires - each wire has a cross section of 0.15 mm. This design means that the cable is particularly conductive and flexible. The surface conductivity effect is enhanced through this construction 1 x 7m length 1 x 6m length Terminated on the source side with gold-plated banana plugs. The speaker side is bare wire which has been soldered with silver solder to prevent the ends from fraying and oxidation Price for the 13m length - R 2000,00 (US$ 110.00) or (€ 100,00) Collect in Cape Town or shipped via a courier of your choice How it arrived: ............................................................................................................................ The actual cable:
  6. I tend to agree with raoul1958. Considering this is a niche, low volume product, there do seem to be quite a lot for sale A friend here has purchased this DAC and 2 x 400 watt monoblocks. Extremely detailed sound, the most I have heard. 3 of us spent several hours listening and thought it somewhat sterile But this is exactly what the owner was looking for. He paired it with a set of Vivids. The source is ROON via an ethernet cable from his iMac
  7. How do you determine if it is compatible? Is there an explanation of the different type of kernels that are available?
  8. Once again, Antonello to the rescue (via Anydesk) Then mistake I made was not choosing version 15 of the kernel Much appreciated. If you were in South Africa, I would have given you a couple of bottles of wine
  9. Yes, did exactly that But looking at Home System, I would expect it to show 6.7.6 and not 6.6.2. Or am I mistaken?
  10. Does not work like that 1st screen - Click on List Kernel, this appears Have I missed a step?
  11. How do you install Kernel 6.7.6? I see it on the list and choose it. It seems to go through the motions and then, doing a check of the Home System, there has been no upgrade at all Here the first portion of the Home System
  12. No, its not that. I looked
  13. I read Auke's post on 29th January Looking at the various kernels, the recommended one is not on the list No idea why not...
  14. Using a Mercury Pi2 which is by far the best device I have used, and especially with Gentooplayer The source is a 4Tb SSD using USB The best output I found is the AES socket and I'm using a Shunyata Cobra cable. Its a 110 ohm impedance cable. Prior to that was a 110 ohm cable and 2 x XLR plugs which I made myself There is a Cat6 LAN cable for the network. Using Maximum MPD as a player on an iPad. Tinkered around with purchased MPD players but all of them have drawbacks to some extent Also using a 12 volt 5 amp linear power supply
