  1. YES. I've done this with both my Oppo 103 and my laptop and played DSD files from both off a USB.
  2. I think redbook playback on the Teac UD-501 is very good. Sound is full at both frequency extremes and not too analytical. Other dacs I have owned or auditioned in my system include the Cambridge Audio DacMagic, Emotiva XDA-1, Shiit Bifrost and Wyred 4 Sound dac 1 and also the dac in my Oppo 103. I think the Teac beats them all for redbook playback. The adjustability of the Teac is unparalleled at its price point and lets you pick upconverting or not, sharp, slow or no digital filters. With PCM I prefer the upconverting on and the sharp digital filter in my system, which is somewhat laid back otherwise. As you say, DSD capability is great, but most of the music I listen to is PCM from ripped CDs and the Teac does not disappoint handling redbook.
  3. Hi Ted. Yes, over at AC bprice2 opined that the EDO mod. would not work with the UD-501, or "at least he couldn't get it to work," was the exact quote. This seems a little strange to me since apparently the EDO mod. works with the lower end TEAC dac, the UD-H01, at least according to the Slimdevices forum. So I decided to post the same question over here on CA to maybe get some more responses from people that have tried to use the Touch with the Teac via usb. Thought there would be a wider audience for that type of thing here than on AC, but I see many of the usual suspects on here as well....
  4. I am considering this DAC but wonder if it will accept the EDO usb out of my SB Touch at 24/196? On the slimdevices forum there is a list of dacs that work with the EDO (Enhanced Digital Output) mod. that enables the Touch to output hi rez files via usb. The lower end TEAC UD-H01 dac is listed but not the newer, DSD capable UD-501. Does anyone know the answer to this question?
