  1. I am building a CD ripper using a Matshita UJ265 transport. I am using it in a cradle I ripped out of a dead ripper I had. There are female connections on the cradle for a USB 3.0 connector and a small female coax barrel type connector. Just using the USB 3.0 connection it powers up I can rip CDs easily to my NUC. So what is the small female coax connector for?
  2. Yes. The cable box is showing as 720P and the NUC as 1080P HD. So I just changed the NUC resolution to 1280 X 720 and still the projector wouldn't show it. I am gonna see if the projector has an input control that needs to be set to 1080P. And I think for now I am going to go in another direction. All I really want to do is project things like Amazon Prime on my 100" screen. Instead of changing out the NUC, which I like for playing back with JRiver just fine, I am going to see if there is a media server that is set to just stream a couple of the internet based sites in which I am interested. If so, I can buy one and if it's output is not accepted via the receiver to the projector, I can return it and try another. I might be able to do this for just around $100 or so, much cheaper and easier than setting up another PC. Thanks for your input - it did make me aware of another variable I had been ignoring - resolution.
  3. Posting in music server - please move if better forum elsewhere. I am happily using an I-5 NUC for music playback, but I also want to use it for television playback. Currently running HDMI out to small Sony AVR receiver which does everything I want - I am not a big movie watcher. Watch TV on 52" Sony as well as projection system using BenQ 1075. To get signal from receiver to BenQ I use a 50' fiber optic cable. I also have a wireless setup, but I have to do some setup work each time I want to use it and have yet to come up with a good sound playback solution other than using my highend rig off USB. I really want to use receiver for sound with television and get all the surround effects. Everything works great except when I try to run the NUC to the projector thru the receiver. I believe the NUC's HDMI output is less than my cable box or blu-ray player, since they work fine going thru receiver to BenQ but NUC does not. I tried another NUC with same results. I can change HDMI cables to go directly from NUC to BenQ and this usually gives me a video signal, but then I have no audio coming from receiver. I have replaced all HDMI cables with very short runs made by Bluejean cables. I have tried several inline HDMI signal boosters, but no good results there. Whew - that is a lot to consider. So here is my question. I am thinking about replacing the NUC with a CAP style server (I have assembled a couple in the past). I could then get real spendy and put in SotM parts to get better USB signal for my highend audio system. Does anyone know if there is a HDMI card I could use that would give me HDMI output equal to my cable box? I want to keep using the television simple, which it is with everything but NUC to BenQ.
  4. Thanks for this info- it looks like it is right on target. As to my testing for MQA, the test showed I wasn't getting it decoded. I later just went from NUC to DAC and that workes for MQA decoding. Last night in a fit I deleted Kazoo and BubblePUP, giving up on Tidal thru the ultraRendu. Hopefully that will do it. BTW, Tidal referred me to JRiver saying " as they developed the interface with the TIDAL backend". Thanks again - this has been really driving me batty (or more batty I guess).
  5. I am using a PC and ultraRendu to a Mytek Brooklyn DAC. I can access the ultraRendu from 2 PCs on my LAN. I recently installed TIDAL and Linn Kazoo as instructed by Sonore on one of the PCs. After I played an Eagles song trying to test MQA I went to my other PC on which I use with JRiver for playback from a NAS attached HD. Now when playing JRiver on my local system, the Eagles song I played on Tidal several days ago keeps interrupting my JRiver song. The Eagles song title appears at the "Now Playing" space on JRiver and the album cover is displayed in the "now playing"album cover space. I have been able to stop it by going to Kazoo on the first PC and hitting the pause button (there is no stop button) even though this Eagles song wasn't currently displayed on the Kazoo player. I would have to do this every few minutes. Now the Kazoo player won't start and I have no control over this Eagles song continuously interrupting the JRiver playback. Short of disconnecting everything from the internet (not really an option) what can I do? I must warn you I am not a PC expert - I punch buttons and things eventually get done. Is there a way to block it?
  6. I have been using JRiver to send music to a ultraRendu from my NAS and all has worked well. Using Mytek Brooklyn. I just got a free trial subscription to Tidal HIFI and am trying to see what I think of MQA, but the MQA indicator just remain white - I do have it enabled. Even no MQA signal should turn indicator gray. I am flummoxed. Using Linn Kazoo to stream Tidal following instructions from Sonore. But this is clumsy - I want to stream from the Tidal page. Is there a way to stream directly from Tidal to the ultraRendu? Any ideas why I am not getting MQA? I am hoping to duplicate method someone here is using that will accomplish both tasks - stream directly from Tidal as well as get MQA signal.
  7. Now it's working OK. I have no friggen clue why. So nevermind.
  8. I run JRiver on 2 NUCs, each playing to the same microRendu through the router. For the last 3 months all worked perfectly. Last week I deleted JRiver and reinstalled a new copy on one of the NUCs, following a library error I couldn't fix. Now whenever I play a 96 Hz piece it plays back at 88, a 192 piece plays back at 176. 44 plays back correctly. This is true for both NUCs. I figure I have some JRiver setting wrong, but I have both NUCs set the same, as best as I can tell. Any suggestions?
  9. I recently switched my microRendu from HDPlex to this UltraCap and the improvement was immediate with music very noticeably better. This is the first LPS I have owned that seemed to really improve the sound.

  11. About 20 years ago I switched from being a salesman for Telarc to a large indie distributor. At one of our conventions I talked to the owners of Rounder and suggested they might use one of my Grammy winning friends to record their music. Fell on deaf ears. They said their artists were responsible for their own recordings and saw no reason to get involved. At Telarc one day a classic musician friend got goosebumps listening to a recording over the intercom. These guys hear it deep in their brains, not through their ears.
  12. Well, never mind, - following a tip on the Bottlehead Forum I fooled with the USB settings in BIOS, disabling Legacy and HCI (whatever that is). I think I may have converted the 3.0 USB outlets to 2.0, but for my purpose of just using this as a server that is not an issue. Thanks to anyone who considered my problem.
  13. I just finished my 3rd CAPS type server - this time by simply buying a NUC D5420XYB PC, putting it in a fanless Akasa case and pairing it with SOtM external USB hub (still in transit) . OS is Windows 10 PRO. This has worked fine with a DSpeaker DAC but when I hook up my Bottlehead DAC and download and install XMOS software I get a small bit of digitally distorted music and the music stops and PC loses touch with the DAC. This happens on different USB slots. I get the same distortion when I run a test tone, so it's not in the JRiver software - I also get distortion if I use Windows Media Player. If I hook the DAC up to my old Sony laptop running Vista it all works. While I can install and run simple PCs, I have no idea how to troubleshoot this problem. Any suggestions are appreciated.
  14. Apparently I am not the only one who was having a problem getting a 1920 x 1080 screen resolution. I found an answer. Go to the Intel download center - Intel Download Center. Do NOT use the driver update utility. Instead use the search downloads field and enter the motherboard - DN2800MT. There are 40 downloads. Go to page 3 and download Graphics: Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* 7. Remember me in your will.
