  1. Sorry - no details. I had been using the first 2.59 file you loaded on drive this morning - and that worked fine. I read about the new versions (8 4 and 8 8) and thought I'd try 8 8. Loaded it up, wouldn't play - command window flashed for a sec and no play. Then I did a restart and it did work - but stopped once fideliser kicked in (I had fideliser on a scheduled start 30 secs after boot up). It was only then I realised what was going on. So just to be clear - this wasn't a SQ issue, it was a no-play issue. Fran
  2. Peter - no - but I'll give it a go.... Fran
  3. BTW, I just thought I'd add in here that fideliser doesn't play nice with 2.59 - just in case anyone is using it and having issues with 2.59 not running. Fran
  4. Like others here, I have following the development over time. I just have to chime in my thanks - I've had some of the best sounds ever here today. Really incredible work with 2.59. Here's the thing. As this just gets better and better, we are all going to start wanting more features..... eg for me, flac playback would be great (tried all the suggestions back up this thread and couldn't make it work). These things will seem like demands - and in reality will be demands on your time. I really think you should consider putting a paypal button on your site. That way you will get a monetary reward for your time, and we won't feel so bad about asking for hires or flac or whatever. For your own sake, and for ours!!! Once again, fantastic work, many thanks! Fran
  5. Well, it certainly beat the AP-linux distro - which I had high hopes for even though it was much dissapproved of here. There seems to be more approval for vortexbox and lubuntu, so I don't know if they would sound better. Do bear in mind that the current version of jplay allows you to use a 2 PC set up. One does nothing but play the music, and this should have nothing installed but the OS and jplay. It can be reasonable spec. The other PC can be your laptop or whatever, and you can continue to use this as a regular PC for surfing or whatever. Best of luck with your build. Its something I have listed for some months from now..... but I think my plans will be much more mundane than yours!
  6. Sorry - I just don't know enough to help you out here. Is there some service that needs to be turned on maybe to make it work?
  7. I compared ap-linux with W7 + jplay. The W7+jplay easily beat ap-linux. Ap-linux worked fine, but just sounded ordinary. I also don't think you need that incredible a spec for jplay? 6 to 8gB ram is plenty, but just for comparison, I'm currently using a P4 3.0ghz with 2.5gb of ram!! W8 sounds better than W7 btw.
  8. This might not be any help, but pressing the windows key+r will give you the run box - typing "control" in it and enter will give you the control panel?
  9. I managed to get wifi turned on. You need to turn on some services; "windows connect now - config registrar" WNCNSVC, "windows connection manager", "wlan autoconfig". Probably also best to turn back on windows defender if possible. I haven't been able to get the firewall back running, but most likely there is a service its dependant on that I haven't got back on.
  10. Hi, I wonder if you could help me out. I have managed to install the W8 audiophile image on a USB key, got it to boot, got the "other user" issue, fixed that but have now hit a wall: When I log in I end up being logged in as a basic user - UAC pops up at every turn asking me to type an Administrator password, but there is no place to enter it? So I cannot open a USB key in windows explorer, never mind disable UAC settings!! Any help would be most appreciated! Fran
