  1. I am currently listening to a 96 KHz 24Bit FLACC file via Media Monkey using ASIO4ALL. It was down loaded from Linn and . I have in the past converted this to WAV at this resolution and all was well. For the record it's Claire Martin's Perfect Alibi Andrew
  2. Firstly thanks you for this site. I have used it to complete my computer based system having followed your recommendations and used MediaMonkey with AISIO etc. My system now is an old Dell DIM4300 with Win XP with a Seagate 500Gb USB Hard Drive and M-Audio Delta 192 sound card. This is all in my loft study and so is connected to the Cambridge Audio 840C acting as the DAC via SPDIF with about 25m of coax! The remainder of the system is an Avondale Audio G1 preamp and two Nuforce P-9SE mono-block power amps driving KEF 200/2 speakers. I also have an analogue record deck and FM radio plus a very old Sony DAT recorder for time shifting the radio. Given the distance from the sound card to the DAC and listening room I did the following that may be of interest to others. Firstly, I used RightMark Audio Analyser to test the M-Audio card looped back on itself via 0.5m of coax, then via the Cambridge Audio 840C (pass through and via its modified output) and finally via the 25m coax and a return length up the stairs. In all cases at the various bit rates and depths the results were very good compared to the theoretical (e.g. dynamic range and distortion) and virtually identical result across the configurations. I could not listen to each configuration as I did not wish to move the PC. However, I can’t hear any difference between using the CD player direct or via the wav computer files. Secondly, having got tired of using a delay track (60 sec of silence) and running up and down the stairs, I added an Aten KVM extender CE-3000 using 25m of Cat5e cable to add an additional monitor and mouse next to the record deck in the listening room. This all works very well and as there are no moving parts it’s totally silently. I am very pleased with the sound from all my sources and won’t be upgrading anytime soon just getting new and varied music.
