  1. Thanks everyone... Interim solution... Found a small gateway notebook, installed iTunes, copied over the music part of my library, applied 3 years worth of software updates (LOL) plugged in the NuForce microDAC I had into USB and it is all small enough to sit on top of the Krell... so far, quite nice...now does PureMusic work on Windows?..... And on and on.... Thanks Simon
  2. So, can I clarify, you removed the NovaPre to put in a different pre-Amp without an integral DAC. Thought you'd get the standalone DAC but as the integrated on in the NovaPre is a better DAC you are looking again. Question then...what didn't you like about the NovaPre that made you start looking again in the first place? Thanks Simon
  3. Right now yes - 40ft lateral distance and one floor up! Been wondering about getting a little Mac mini just to run the music and putting it next to the preamp....
  4. I've always liked the sound of the Quad (back when I used to have it with a Quad 44 pre and Celestion SL600Si speakers) - very pure clean sound. Then the 44 failed and I got the used Krell pre-amp. It performs well but never seems quite as warm as the 44 did. The 606 buzzes a little (old caps maybe?) or perhaps because its a UK unit running on 220v 60hz in the USA not sure. But the sound is still good. I was using a California labs CD, but that failed also and so I moved to iPod as primary. Then, when that unit went, I'd already upgraded my iTunes to Apple Lossless throughout and the PureMusic add-on (which I love). Next to the computer I run direct to a NuForce microDAC to Audioengine A5+ and this is very acceptable, but I want to be able to drive the main room from this audio source also. I tried a little audioengine W3 to transmit the decoded analog audio wirelessly to the Krell, but the sound seems thin to me and it also slows down my wireless network when the transmitter is active (fighting for similar frequencies no doubt). Hence wanting to move to transmitting the digital signal and decoding at the other end. I hadn't looked at the ARCAM - wonder which has the better sound, that or the DAC-IT? .... Thanks folks Simon
  5. So I'm looking at running from iTunes through Apple TV into my main two channel living room system (computer/server is half a house away). This is a Krell KAV-250P pre-amp->Quad 606 power amp driving B&W CM9s. Of course there is no way to hook-up the Apple TV direct to the Krell so I started looking at Peachtree's DAC-IT as an interface between the two. Question then is this...Is with the system described above and the clear mismatch in ages of components etc... would the DAC-IT be a good route to go or would I be better off looking at a Peachtree pre-amp with optical input. Or indeed are these new components so much better now that a full Peachtree integrated amp straight into the CM9s would be an improvement. Any and all insight's into this would be greatly received. I'm new here and have read some reviews of individuals, but really looking for some wise experience to put it all into context. P.S. I'm using the Peachtree components as an illustration because I've been researching these, but all other not hideously priced ideas would be greatly received.
