  1. I posted this also under the Trinity Sessions thread but thought it deserved its own thread. Check out Margo's "Ty Tyrfu Sessions". Margo solo with Jeff Bird and a couple backing musicians!! I hope they release it as a Margo solo album on CD and vinyl. I'd buy both. http://latentrecordings.com/cowboyjunkies/exclusive/ Yes. Margo sounds amazing. Yes. Jeff Bird is an unsung musician that does not get nearly enough publicity.

  3. I've been running an Apple TV (for music audio only no video) with my Naim Nait 1 and Paridigm Atoms. I was using the analog audio outputs of the Apple TV into the aux on the Nait. It sounded good. But after reading about external DACs in these forums and elsewhere I remembered I had an original Audio Alchemy DAC that I had never used. I checked that back of the Apple TV and AA and sure enough, both have Toslink. So I connected the two, running my Apple TV as an audio source into the Audio Alchemy via Toslink, then the AA via RCAs into the same aux in on the Naim Nait. Oh. My. Gosh. Whatever happened I can't explain. Dynamics like I had not heard before with this little integrated amplifier. And the output...seriously I feel as if there is 6db more gain on the volume control than before (maybe an exageration but TONS different in output). Is this a normal experience when using a DAC? Is output and dynamics increased this much? Now I wonder what a new DAC with current technology would sound like. My suggestion...Get a DAC! And an Apple TV.
  4. It would be great to have a show like this in the northern IL area. Centrally located to Chicago, Milwaukee and Madison (WI), we could host it here in Rockford, IL. I'm up for volunteering to help with logistics, show prep, etc.
  5. It does have TOSLINK output. I connected via TOSLINK to the Apple TV and OH MY GOSH!!! The output volume increase...I don't know...at least doubled (my estimation). My Naim Nait (original) and Paradigm Atoms v.6 never sounded so good. Unbelievable and my entire music library is all easily accessible from my iPod Touch with the Remote App. Seriously. This is outstanding. I don't know how such an increase in output is possible with a DAC and TOSLINK but it is. This is awesome.
  6. Hello all, I'm in the process of adding a second Apple TV to my overall system. The first is already used in another room, synching and streaming from my brand new Lepard Mac Mini/Western Digital - Lacie HDs combo. The second Apple TV I am going to use as a music server in my Naim Nait / Paradigm set up. I have an older Audio Alchemy DAC01 D-to-A converter that has never been used before. Will the AA work with the Apple TV? Any thoughts on the sound quality level I should expect (or not expect) with this D-to-A unit? I know it was highly thought of in audio circles as a lower budget model back in the day. Thanks for any input. d
  7. I have an original version one Nait. It still sounds wonderful, and a great match with my LP12 and Paradigm Atoms. Yes the Remote App works very well with iTunes and the AppleTV. Nice thing is you don't need a TV monitor in this application, all control is on the Touch (or iPhone). Album artwork and song titles appear on screen as does volume and track + & -. I love the setup it works great. And all on my home wireless network!! I would recommend it to anyone. Enjoy! np: Tim Weisberg vinyl "Tip of the Weisburg" on my LP12 (yeah I know this site is about 'computer' music. LOL.
  8. Don't know about whether it 'sounds' better or not but I use three cones underneath the AppleTV in our living room just to lift it up and off the shelf to help in cooling. The AppleTV gets a bit warm and this helps with air flow. I have a second AppleTV (40gig) in my Naim Nait / Linn LP12 / Paradigm Atom v.6 setup and absolutely love it. I should try some feet underneath and see if it sounds better in this system. It sounds awesome already. Seriously the Paradigm Atom v.6 is KILLER with the AppleTV and analog LP12. So instead of a CD player I just go to my Mac, download the CD(s) that I want to hear into my AppleTV and select the music via my iPod Touch with Remote application. Sweet.
  9. It must the the Northern Illinois winter this year. We are setting records for snow fall around here. Having been a cold, dark, snowy February I purchased a lot of new music: Lust Lust Lust & Pretty in Black by The Ravoenettes. Just got into this band about a month ago. Dwight Sings Buck by Dwight Yoakum. What a fun album! Dwight sings Bucks best loved songs. RIP Buck. Confessions Tour CD/DVD by Madonna. Madonna is my 'quilty pleasure'. Love her dance music. The Hits by Faith Hill. Liverpool 8 by Ringo Starr. Dirt Farmer by Levon Helm. Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode. (thanks TROY!) Brothers & Sisters by The Allman Brothers. Thick As A Brick (remaster) by Jethro Tull. Tales of Mystery & Imagination Deluxe Edition by Alan Parsons. As far as computer gear...I use an iMac G5 with itunes and have a 160GB AppleTV. I stream all of my music (entire CD library burned into itunes/stored on external Lacie HD) to my AppleTV in the living room. Sound is a NAD744 receiver and Paradigm speakers. I must say this is totally fun and sounds awesome! I've been in the Consumer Electronics industry since 1979 and have sold and owned a lot of high-end audio/video products but the easy access to quality, high-end music reproduction now available is the best ever. By the way Chris C., I stumbled upon this site and it is now listed in my favorites. Very cool. Doug 'hifi'
  10. Lust Lust Lust by Raveonettes Artist: The Raveonettes Title: Lust Lust Lust Genre: Rock Good song to sample: Dead Sound Recording quality: probably 6 out of 10 but hey its rock 'n roll! Comments: This is grunge, power, punk and rock all rolled into one. Sune Rose Wagner and Sharin Foo absolutely rock with influences of Velvet Underground, punk, '50s girl bands and rave. Check it out.
  11. I'm using a Lacie 250GBHD and it is very quiet. I sets under my desk and I never hear it except during initial bootup. I have over 7k songs stored on it in Apple Lossless and it is fast and quiet. I don't know how Lacie stacks up vs. other HD manufacturers (I've never owned another brand)...I bought this at the Apple store, figuring if Apple sold it in their store it must be a good match for my Mac. So far so good.
