  1. Thanks for the input Melvin. Can anyone tell me what are the best asynch usb dacs on the market right now $2k or less? I think I will start with getting the best usb dac within my budget, and then if I'm not totally satisfied with that I can look into the usb to spdif converters. No matter what I decide or what the end all solution is on whether straight asynch usb or usb converted to spdif is the optimal choice, I still need a good dac to feed my $2k headphones arriving soon.
  2. Well I had a bunch of questions. Since my second set up, basically my bedside rig, is going to center around my mb air, and end with my fostex, denon headphones, i need to figure out my dac solution, its the hardest part for me to understand. My biggest concern right now is the dac and the best way for usb implementation, whether a converter is necessary or not. I see many different opinions on this subject here and on head-fi, making it hard for me to decide what the best solution is. I cant understand if going to straight usb is better, or converting usb to spdif, i have yet to find a clear cut answer. I also wanted to know what the best asynch usb dacs there are on the market say below$2k. I dont care about DSD capability as I don't see it becoming a popular option for me. I am happy with my 16 or 24 bit flac files. So yes my post consisted of many questions. Hopefully I can get other experienced people on here to help me build the best bang for buck system within my budget.
  3. I'm a head-fi member coming here to get some advice. What I'm trying to do is get the best computer/headphone set up for my Denon D7000 and Fostex TH900. My transport is a 2012 Macbook Air and using audirvana+, which I will need to be using via usb. Currently I have been using a Yulong D100 version 1 usb dac/amp to feed my denons. I am waiting for my TH900's to arrive soon. What I need help with is finding the best solution for a usb dac. The yulong, although an incredible dac for the money, is a bit outdated for its usb capabilities, and I think its time to upgrade with $2k headphones. I don't know whether to use a converter to a dac, or just the best asynch dac I can find within price range. I guess $500-$1500 is my budget. I'm really not worried about that amp part as of now since I feel a little more experienced with that section. I would like to run balanced to my headphone amp though. So I need suggestions on what to do with my mb air? Do i go usb to converter to spdif to dac or just get a really good asynch dac? And what dacs should I be considering. There is a lot of opinions on whether to use a converter, or eliminating the chain and just go straight to a well performing dac. Since I will exclusively be using usb, I just wanted to get as much info as I can. My other set up is the Schiit Mjolnir, Gungnir for my LCD 2 & 3 via optical. Please help me with my second set up.
