  1. I also have a 2TB all filled with music, but tell me this - you can't possibly have it all in one iTunes library, can you? I don't see how that's possible... iT just can't handle that much, even with the fastest hardware that's out there... W
  2. If you like, get in touch with me off-list - [email protected]. Thanks! WF
  3. yes. (1) I was putting the idea out there - claiming to have the world's largest library - just to get people's attention, get a reaction, and get a discussion started. It's a preposterous claim to make, obviously! (2) That was in April 2007 - the library has grown substantially since then. In fact, the reason I'm re-iterating the claim right now is just to keep the conversation ongoing. Am still trying to find out what the best music library player - programs out there might be - has anyone tried media monkey, for instance (not that it would do me any good, since I don't use windows...) w
  4. it's all true... my listening habits are rather extreme, I listen to music all day long, so I need to rip as much as possible, as fast as possible. But I don't recommend anyone else following my example... w
  5. am not familiar with the NAIM forum.. usually I don't transfer more than a few CDs a day, but then I've been doing it for almost six years. sometimes, of course, I get am ambitious, and will go through a whole artist in a day... or whatever it takes. w
  6. is there any body reading this that has hundreds & hundreds of thousands of tracks? anybody (besides me) with multiple terrabytes? so far Amarok is the way to go for big mega libraries (or so I have found) but you have to start a whole linux set up for it... w
  7. Yes, I really enjoy having the music on the drive - it makes it so much easier to listen "vertically" rather than "horizontally" - or is it the other way around, you're not stuck listening to what's on a given CD, you can pretty much program and re-program your own sequences spontaneously every time. It puts the creativity of sequencing and programming in the hands of the listener. w
  8. this is my longtime, on-going obsession - much as I love iTunes, it's not designed to work with larger libraries, and my library is very large. I have set up a special music server (of the kind described on this website) to run the Linux platform and the Amarok program, but I was curious if anyone else has a very large library on Mac or Windows and what program they're using for it. somewhere in this site, I came across a windows program called Media Monkey, but they only promise that it will work with libraries of up to 50,000 songs ... obviously, I passed that number a LONG time ago! ------- [Here's an older article - from almost two years ago - about my trials & tribulations with iTunes (if anyone is interested); incidentally I didn't really claim to have the world's largest iTunes library, that was just something Glenn & I agreed on to attract attention, which it did!] Glenn Wolsey, a really nice bloke from New Zealand, who is the area's leading Mac & Technology blogger (a bloke who has a blog) interviewed me regarding my iTunes library and program situation... here is the link: the link hmm... am not sure how linking works here - my URL seems to have disappeared... possibly someone can figure out how to get to it...

  11. are you using a Mac? There's a script for Mac iTunes called "Embed Artwork," which stores the JPEG in the soundfile itself. Why is this useful? This way, when you move or copy the file somewhere else, such as an external hard drive, a different system, or an iPod, the JPG goes with it. Go to doug's applescripts for iTunes, there's a ton of useful stuff for Mac iT users there... W
  12. thanks. The M-Audio looks good, but it seems to only have an earphone output. I think the Breth (I can't remember the entire spelling) will work better for me because it has full-sized RCA stereo outputs. but will look into the M-Audio too... thanks muchly.
  13. thank you ! looks like a winner. For $30, how can I go wrong? I started using an EDIROL device when I first started using iTunes, around 2003 - it has never failed me. I could get another EDIROL, but I wanted to see what was out there - this Behringer looks great! thanks again! w
  14. this should be a very basic question for this website forum: what is a good basic device for hooking up a computer to a stereo? It can be USB or firewire or whatever (since I'm using a linux platform machine, maybe USB is more compatible with everything?). anything other than the headphone jack... am talking on the low-end side price wise - $100 or less? Maybe $150 if it's something really terrific? thanks Willfriedwald
