  1. Well, almost forgotten to answer on this thread. Officially Mytek said that they need the power connected. However, I have proven them wrong. I am using 10m/33feet Corning USB3. Optical Cable which carries no power then to a normal 1.5m USB cable (soon I will be replacing this to just custom made gender and type A-B changer). This cable is really a blessing. Now I can store the computer/source far away (up to 30m cable is currently available, 100m cable coming soon). This is the way it should be done. Based on initial listening, it is proven to be revelatory. Beating all cables at any cost including the ridiculously expensive SR cable.
  2. Just a quick question: will the Mytek 192DSD DAC USB2.0 input still recognize the data transmission from PC even without the power pin enabled (pin1 disabled)?
  3. Now at 1400 discs and counting. I got a second system (CECHA01) just as a backup and opted for fan speed adjustment installation. What surprises me, the system version is 4.25 but it is still able to run the SACD ripper without issue. Anyone else getting this very same result?
  4. Teac UD-501 will get you the sound you desire via the given filters.
  5. Why not get the discontinued Esoteric A-100 for your speaker set up? The line stage is state of the art and you will love the sound of this tube amp. I think it should come with reduced pricing in Japan as part of stock clearance. Given the choice of your combo, I will pick the first one with DA-06. Should you wish to downsize your budget, you can consider the TEAC HA-501 paired with DA-06 connected via balanced cable. The amp should have enough juice for the HD800, infact I found it to be one of a "must listen" headphone amps for under 1000USD.
  6. Would like to chip in with regards to MySoundAffairs mod. I went ahead with the full fledged with external power supply mod. In short, it's not magic but the sound quality really went from excellent to state-of-the-art in my opinion. To give a more complete picture, the modified DAC has the -6dB jumper engaged (my associated equipment, i.e.: the amplifier, doesn't like the 0 dB signal), attached via Firewire to PC running Windows 8.1 Embedded. Playback done via foobar2000, DoP. The amp is a humble Marantz PM11-S3 driving Esoteric MG-20. Compared to the stock Mytek, now I can hear more nuanced and natural sound than before. It takes away the character of cold/edginess without loosing details at all. Size of soundstage remains about the same. It does not loose the very well defined bottom end of the Esoteric and it gives more air in the treble. Instruments/singers separations get close to the feeling of being there. Talking about stable imaging and holographic sound, this is it! Also have the chance to hook it up to the headphone rig running Teac HA-501 (also with the -6dB jumper engaged), with Audio Technica W5000, the above observations are consistent. More natural feeling/sounding with that beautiful midrange and excellent bass definition.
  7. My humble suggestions for PC: Foobar2000. You can install many plugins for bit perfect playback, DSD files support, ASIO support, WASAPI support, etc. It supports playback from RAM Disk as well. Controller: foobar2000 controller for Android or iOS. This includes play list manager too.
  8. Would that workshop be published as an online video (similar to RMAF seminars)?
  9. Just nice that I took a bit of time to compare the Luxman to the Marantz NA11S1. Though cheaper, the Marantz is a better resolving player which provides better extension at both bottom and high frequencies. Sound wise, slightly laid back on the Luxman than the Marantz. It's much closer to what you will expect from gears from Esoteric or dCS than Marantz. Even without the network streaming/internet radio features, the Marantz is a steal at such price.
  10. Indeed it can do double DSD rate. Got a short home trial on this for a week and it is without any doubts one of the very well priced DACs with outstanding sound quality (in a very positive way, it's revealing, transparent, highly resolving and neutral). If you think that's the common trait of a lot of Esoteric high end SACD players/DACs, this Marantz does the job equally well if not better than that. So far I have tried on a headphone rig, replacing the Mytek Stereo192-DSD DAC (Teac HA-501 + Audio Technica W3000ANV). Just one word when the music is playing: heavenly!
  11. Late to join the party but just some combinations that I have tried. I set up two independent systems using the same Mytek DAC, one computer (Intel NUC, DC32171YE) is running on Windows 8 Pro 64 bit connected to the DAC via USB2.0. Current firmware version on the Mytek is 1.7.5 and using USB 1.34.10 Driver. Playback software is foobar2000 with foo_sacd_input ver 0.65 with the same version of ASIO Proxy install. Playback is via ASIO DSD Native. This combo allows me to play back DSD128 (from many sources such as 2L and Opus3) as well as PCM up to 192kHz. No problem at all. On to the second combination, it's running on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, Firewire to the DAC and 4.1.3.17357 DICE FW Driver from Mytek. The playback software remains the same except from ASIO configuration, it is running on DoP. Now almost everything works except when playing back DSD128 files, I can hear white noise (high frequency) and the content of the files at the same time. I have tried with all the DSD128 tracks that I have and the result has been conclusive. Do you have any solution to this? I prefer the playback using this Firewire method as it allows me 5m connection to the DAC with better sound quality than using 5m USB cable. Also Firewire does not have clicks when changing playback between DSD files to PCM files. Highly appreciate your reply.
  12. I am fairly sure that the DSD is not streamed via HDMI on HTPC. Commonly, USB or Firewire interface is used. Be it with ASIO Native DSD driver or DSD over PCM driver (most Firewire devices use this implementation). For multichannel implementation ala Mytek, you just use 3 DACs and 3 USB interface. I have not tried toying with multichannel DSD via USB to Oppo 105. Perhaps someone can chip in.
  13. I think the ISO files burned to DVDs can be played on the BDP83 (check the firmware version) or 95 or 105 for that matter (recognized as DSD Disc). The latest firmware of 105 allows DSD playback via its USB interface too but I am not sure if it works for both Mac and PC (tried on PC only). None of the PC I am aware of can output native DSD or DoP via HDMI port to HDMI port of DSD capable receivers. I am only aware DSD to PCM conversion is done on the PC then output as 24/192 or 24/176.2 to the receivers.
  14. Hi ted_b, please correct me if I am wrong. I obtained the ISO via sacd extract and from the ISO, I have to extract the DSF, no? Also, is there a way after editing the metadata to rebuild the ISO? Thanks for your kind reply. Anyway, my playback goes like this: open the ISO via foobar2000. Via native ASIO DSD, directly pumped into Mytek DAC.
  15. Dropping by to say thanks to Jason who helped me to a great extent to obtain an excellent CECHA with fan control modification. Multiman indicates CPU temp at about 55C and RSX 43C after ripping many SACDs, ambient 27C. The best thing is you will never be able to accidentally disabled the fan as software still has control over fan behavior in case the toggle is set for too low. This is really the go-to guy for your PS3 troubles. On the subject of ripping, no problem at all. I am using extract via network as my default method. Anyway, is there any way to edit the meta data of extracted SACD? Some of my fone Jazz SACD is showing as Unknown Album. Thanks for your support folks.
