thank you for sap ! i am still trying to get digital asio output in sap - so cant say anything about SQ yet (wasapi sounds worse than cplay asio) but i found out that cplay is also decoding flac into memory - but that sounds worse than wav. i have found flac worse than wav when i reconverted flac to wav. is my pc too slow ? 1,8ghz atom i have tested XXhighend but it is very slow and complicated on my 2GB ram machine and sounds worse than cplay

As i prefer wav over flac in playback, but need to archive in flac due to tagging features I need a player that plays wav from pre converted flac files. Atm I use cplay and foobar. Is there any plug-in or a better player for win7 ? Thank-you

I am about to rip my cd collection. I tested EAC & Foobar with WAV & FLAC files and found that FLAC sounds like 5 percent less dynamic than WAV. (Some people seem to agree in blind testing). I converted the FLAC file back to WAV and found that that file didnt sound as good as the original one. Something must be wrong with encoding, replay or conversion. Do i need a better flac player to get the original wav sound - is that possible with flac in general? And if not - how to archive BWF (Broadcast Wave) files & which player ? (foobar doesnt play BWF, JRMC sounds worse than foobar with wav=bwf) What to do ?

If thats true we have a incredible bargain. Is that device useable as active crossover ?

Thanks for your replys so far ! the minerva and the dac2 are the same. but the latest versions do have an important feature - they have an variable gain control (4 fixed settings). thats the only way to use the dac2/minerva without an preamp. with that feature you can listen to your favourite volume at 90-100% digital and make small variations with the digital volume control.

i have to buy a new source - either Linn Akurate DS or the Weiss DAC2. Weiss DAC2: is it possible to run it without a pc - control it via iphone (install all the necessary software (apple/amarra, ...) on the nas ? what is your (simple) hard&software recommendation. (nas, cables, remote, amarra, jriver, ...) is it possibe to control the digital volume via the iphone ? what kind of music managemet-software is available fo the iphone and how do you find it ? is it possilble to choose & listen to internetradio in this "nas-only" setup ? is there a good room correction software or equalizer available ? maximum firewirecablelenght ? and which one ? Unfortunately the majik ds is not fully balanced - and its not granted that it could drive the 8050 (output impedance) Furthermore the majik ds has digital volume control only - so it will be either too quiet with 100% digital or too loud. in that case - if you go under 70% digital volume you will loose too much bits and degrade soundquality. btw the the weiss dac2 has its variable gain control only in its latest version - theres a little screw in the back and it will have the samplingrate-indication on the front plate. make that sure if you buy used or an old stock model. happy listening juergen

Great choice on the Genelec 8050A ! For now - The best value under the sun. For a dac there is only one choice : Weiss DAC2 (mk2) (better than benchmark dac1 & lavry da11) - Weiss DAC2 (mk2) direct into your Genelecs you can set the output voltage to a certain level (your prefered listening level with digital volume at 90 to 100%) and make the slight volume variations with the digital volume control - make additional room corrections (after acoustic room treatment) with an equalizer. Ayre QB-9 is also as good but you will spend extra money on an preamp Linn Akurate DS is the absolute best for real world money - but less value and you will need a preamp aswell. For Cables start with Vovox direct s (unshielded cables) - extremely good value and becoming studio standard after mogami. Good Luck ! Juergen
