  1. Here's another option if you don't want to fiddle with a little computer: SOtM Mini Server sMS-100 There's a battery power supply as well.
  2. You may want to consider setting up a beaglebone black to run squeezelite. There is a post on this site detailing step by step how to do it. It outputs via USB to your dac, can run on 4 AA batteries, and should be a direct replacement for your squeezebox. I built one for the same purpose but am currently back to the old squeezebox duet. Make sure the USB receiver in your esoteric unit works with Linux....I think that is the problem with my Marantz dac.
  3. I wasn't around for a couple of days, but here is the output I get from the above command: root@arm:/usr/bin# ./squeezelite-armv6hf -l Output devices: null - Discard all samples (playback) or generate zero samples (capture) default:CARD=Black - TI BeagleBone Black, - Default Audio Device sysdefault:CARD=Black - TI BeagleBone Black, - Default Audio Device default:CARD=Audio - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - Default Audio Device sysdefault:CARD=Audio - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - Default Audio Device front:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - Front speakers surround40:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - 4.0 Surround output to Front and Rear speakers surround41:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - 4.1 Surround output to Front, Rear and Subwoofer speakers surround50:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - 5.0 Surround output to Front, Center and Rear speakers surround51:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - 5.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Rear and Subwoofer speakers surround71:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - 7.1 Surround output to Front, Center, Side, Rear and Woofer speakers iec958:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 - DigiHug USB Audio, USB Audio - IEC958 (S/PDIF) Digital Audio Output I'll check out the squeezelite forum as well. Thanks again for the help.
  4. Hi Chris, Thanks for responding. Unfortunately, I still can't get it to work right. I tried ./squeezelite-armv6hf –o hw:CARD=Audio and ./squeezelite-armv6hf –o hw:CARD=Audio,DEV=0 but it still proceeds into a loop displaying the below every 5 seconds. [01:46:01.030873] alsa_open:319 unable to set period count Invalid argument I don't know how to make it stop, so I just close the terminal and start over again. Thoughts?
  5. I recently got a BBB with the intent to run Squeezelite in place of my current SB Duet as I would like to play hi-res files. I followed the instructions Chris posted on the build up until the OS setup section. I'm using terminal on my mac to access the BBB, but this is my first time working with Linux. I really have no idea what I'm doing - just following the instructions exactly. When I get to this command: ./squeezelite-armv6hf –o hw:CARD=1,DEV=0 I get the following response: root@arm:~# /usr/bin/squeezelite-armv6hf [01:46:01.030873] alsa_open:319 unable to set period count Invalid argument [01:46:06.040700] alsa_open:319 unable to set period count Invalid argument [01:46:11.049763] alsa_open:319 unable to set period count Invalid argument [01:46:16.058805] alsa_open:319 unable to set period count Invalid argument I can see "Squeezlite" in my LMS, but if I try to play a song, nothing comes out. My dac seems to be getting a signal, though, as it doesn't say "unlocked". Here is the setup: Vortexbox Appliance > Ethernet to Router > BBB Ethernet to Router > USB to Marantz SA8004 Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks!
  6. Did you ever get the battery set up? I'm thinking about going this route if / when I decide to build a CAPS...
  7. I'm planning my build of a CAPSv3 Carbon and I would like to understand how these 2 components might interact. As I understand it, the main purpose of the SoTM PCIe card is to separate the USB output from the motherboard minimizing the amount of dirty power that makes it to the DAC. The iUSB seems to share the same purpose, so would they be viewed as alternate methods of achieving the same goal? i.e. if you use the iUSB, do you still need the SoTM card? Or would their benefits be additive? I read through the lengthy iFI iUSB thread and saw the question posed but never answered. Thanks, Jay
  8. Yeep is right I'm new to this stuff....I've never used a nas before. Thanks again.
  9. Thanks Paul. My main concern with this setup is the use of both JRiver and iTunes. Would the two applications be "fighting" to organize the file directory on the NAS where the music exists? Or would I have to separate the folders where music is stored with jr pointing to one and itunes pointing to a different one? Also, does itunes have any issues pointing to a NAS folder for the music library?
  10. To start, I want to say thank you to Chris and all of the forum members for putting together the incredible amount of information on this site. I've been lurking around here for months trying to learn about music servers, and I'm ready to take the plunge. My goal is to have a simple solution that achieves excellent sound quality. The CAPS would likely be purchased from small green computer as I have no experience putting together the hardware. Below is the setup I'm contemplating. Will this work? If so, how much troubleshooting / tweaking would be expected? Any advice or recommendations are very welcome. 1. Store my music library on it's own drive that can be accessed from the CAPS and my Laptop. Is NAS the way to go here? Any recommendations on a good choice? The CASH list reco's look to be a few years old... 2. Use my MacBook Pro to rip CDs to the NAS, have iTunes on the Mac recognize the NAS based music so that I can sync the library to my iphone and ipad. Also, I would use the mbp to download hi-res files, saving them on the NAS. 3. Use the CAPS with JRiver and JRemote on my ipad to send both redbook and hi-res music to my Marantz SA8004. I will likely use a USB / spdif converter as only the spdif input allows for 24/192 decoding. 4. Use the CAPS to manage my Rhapsody library, stream rhapsody music to my stereo, and sync my Sansa (rhapsody portable device). Thanks, Jay My stereo setup: Integrated: Ayon Spirit III Speakers: Nola Micro Grand Reference Digital: Marantz SA8004 - CD Player with digital inputs Analog: Sumiko Celebration II > Rega P5 > Heed Quasar Phonostage Cables: Shunyata Zitron Cobra loom
