  1. Hi all. I’m rather new to the world of quality audio. I have enjoyed listening to music all of my life and until about a year ago always used entry level headphones/earbuds or standard PC type speakers (2.1) and although I listen to music often, I always was under the impression that it’s loud, the bass is loud so everything is groovy. About 18 months ago I started playing around with an app called Ableton LIVE, I quickly realised that my existing speakers are just crap. So I got an old NAD 3020e amp and some Mission 760i speakers. Someone gave me the amp and I paid a work colleague £20 for the speakers. Now I know this setup is not that great, but the improvement in quality was amazing ! So the hook is in and I’d really like to learn a little more about this audiophile thing. BETTER QUALITY ! I really like the older kit more than the new stuff, a mate of mine was moving house and gave me a pair of old Wharfedale Denton 2xp speakers. They are all beat up, and don’t sound good at all. Although the cabs are a bit scuffed, they are still solid with no cracks, breaks or major dents. As far as my limited knowledge goes, the cabs are uber important. They are made of solid walnut, where as my missions are chipboard. I’m guessing this make the Wharfedale cabs better than the Mission cabs. I was wondering if any’1 thought it’d be worth trying to restore these little babies ? I have read up that it’s possible to replace the crossovers and rewire them. Getting them to look good won’t be an issue, I can handle that part, but I want them to look good and sound good too. If anyone has any advice on where I should start to look with regards to maybe some good tutorials about this kind of thing I’d really appreciate it. I repair laptops/computers and many other electronic things by day, so I’m capable of doing all of soldering, replacing components etc. It’s the technical stuff I really need pointers on. Replace components like for like (modern day compatible part of same/similar spec) ? or upgrades, I like upgrades, but tight budget Anyways peeps, thanks for reading, any advice would be much appreciated. If you need to know any more specifics, please let me know Regards Ty
