  1. Hi Melvin Thanks for the reply, I was afraid of that, maybe I got my Mac Mini working by rolling it back to an earlier OSX which isn't an option for me now. Can I ask you you've connected yours? I have a spare PC and managed to test it out (haven't used my hifi in over a year since I moved) but would rather run it from my MacBook, I'm currently looking at USB to optical converters or music streamers which can output optical to the Qute EX.
  2. Hi Sorry if this should be in the Software forum, has anyone managed to get the Qute HD or EX to work on the current version of OSX (High Sierra?) i cant get Apple to recognise the DAC as an output device however it’s listed in System Profile. im using a MacBook Pro, I’m sure I had this working on a Mac Mini but can’t remember if it was on Sierra or High Sierra. I’ll email Chord tomorrow but thought I’d see if anyone’s online who has a Mac and this dac. thanks
  3. Thanks for the info Phil, i'll email Claudia now
  4. I've recently tried Win Server 2012 with JRiver and was quite suprised to hear a sound difference which I wasn't expecting. It did sound more detailed but a little raspy on the vocals. The soundstage was wider and flatter which might have exposed flaws in my system. I have a Qute EX with Vintage Radford STA15 and Quad 57 speakers. I listen to a lot of Unplugged acoustic music which sounds great on my Win 7 system with smaller deeper soundstage and smoother vocals which sounds like a small pub / club venue which I love. Maybe I didn't have 2012 setup properly? I don't know. I emailed Phil a few days ago about the optimizer and to enquire about a forum post he made a while ago about a money back guarantee since there a high probability it won't work out for me since a lot of people have said about wider soundstages. He hasn't replied yet so maybe he's not doing a money back guarantee anymore which is a shame since there is no trial.
  5. I contacted Chord today and they said the upgrade will be available as long as the Qute EX is in production. Does anyone know of any impressions / reviews of the Qute EX?
  6. If found the following information for my PS3 Initial FAT models: With BD400 drive, BMD-001 daughterboard capable for driving KEM-400AAA slide and KES-400A laser. Does anybody know where the drive name is printed on the drive so I can check cheers
  7. Hi Today i have purchased a 60GB PS3(CECHC003) and have taken it apart to have a look inside. I'm the 3rd owner and the second owner mentioned it had no warranty sticker. I can see someones been poking around in here and am abit worried they might have changed the Bluray drive. Does anyone know if there is a drive number i can look for, i think i saw it on a thread earlier but cant find it now. Secondly can you please tell me what i have to do to see the number, i have disconnected the data and power cable and so far can see the following numbers 160706B1C07013 on the PCB in the underside of the Bluray and the second number is D701001457, that looks like its the drive id. If its not and i need to dismantle the drive further please let me know. Unfortunatly i cant just test it because i dont have any SACD's and i wanted to check i had the right drive before i started ordering flashers as the PS3 is on 4.3.1 Cheers Pete
  8. Hi I have a pair of Quad 57 which i've tested and are working well. They are alittle down on volume when compaired to my recently rebuilt ones but that is to be expected and will be the case of all 57's which havn't been serviced. I have two options on the grills. Option 1 - I had a mint pair which i punctured and have attempted a repair, i havn't done the best job because the paint doesnt match, i'm sure someone more determined could do a better job at this. These are the grills in the pic below. The other grill for the speaker is still in mint condition. Option 2 - I have the rough grills off my refurbished 57's spare so could fit these for a discounted price, i could then sell the mint grill on ebay as im sure there are people who have a damaged one and would like to swap them out. I'm not to sure on prices, i was thinking £450 for the nice grills or £350 for the others. This could be a good option if you are interested in putting socks over etc. I have boxes for them so they will transport well, im in South Wales if anyone wants to have a look at them and listen to them etc. Get in touch if you'd like to discuss I'm at work at the moment so cant post pictures but heres the Ebay listing i put up last week with images attached. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3308517575...84.m1555.l2649 Pete
  9. Hi I am in the process of comparing the Xciter against my new Chord Dac and will be deciding over the weekend which one to keep. The Chord is convenient as it can convert everything over USB, the Cary Xciter can do the same 24/192 but only over BNC or Optical. If you can get the best out of this its a great Dac with a beautiful presentation which is why im not 100% im definitely selling it. I have a week to decide if i'm going to part ex it or not. If anyone would be interested in purchasing it let me know. Its in great condition, the only mark on it is the very bottom of the 'r' on the power label is worn away. It was like this when i received it new from the states. Didnt bother sending it back because it cost enough to get it over here. Cary Audio Design - Xciter 32 Bit DAC RRP $1500
  10. Hi I've recently purchased this DAC and upgraded the power supply to one called "Best of Two worlds" Havnt done any A to B testing but initial impressions are really good. Very detailed and Melvins right about the bass (even on my Quad 57 speakers) I plan to do some A to B on the weekend against my old DAC (Cary Xciter) to see which one i keep, i really like the Cary and just want to test soundstage and presentation against the two. The QuteHD is much more convenient for me because it can do everything over usb where the Cary needs BNC or Optical to get to 24/196. I have tried a DSD ISO through the QuteHD and Jriver and was very impressed, not quite sure about the soundstage yet but its a new dac and think i need to adjust or allow abit more burn-in, i've had it a week
  11. Cheers Melvin, yeah i think i made the right choice for my needs at the moment. I've also picked up a Linear power supply from Mark Grant Cables. Have both on a 30 day return policy so wanted to get the best out of it for the audition. The power supply was £110.
  12. Thanks for the ideas, I chose the Chord quteHD in the end. All the others offered things I dont need and were paying extra for, such as balanced outs, headphone amps or touchscreen GUIs I have purchased it through AnalogueSeduction who have been great and have given me a 30 day trial and a fair trade in price for my Cary Dac. Il report back when it arrives, thanks to everyone who suggested options quickly and helped me get a good evenings research and eventually picking a model I wasn't aware of before starting the tread Cheers guys
  13. The more i look at them, the more i like the look of the QuteHD, get an awful lot for your money, wouldnt be taking such a hit too as i cant find any of the DACs mentioned on the used market around the UK.
  14. Just been looking into the AMR, am i right theyre a UK company? if so great, read a review where they said the sound was pretty laid back, hope this isnt the case. Anyone know the current uk price? the uk dealers is one of those sites that doesnt list prices Cheers
