  1. Pure Music has been very inconsistent for me. One time it works, the next time it doesn't. When I select a track with PM running its appalling banner across the top of the screen, the system immediately switches to iTunes. Sometimes it plays the file from my DAC, other times in iTunes. How does one avoid that?
  2. How does one turn off the hideous scroll bar? I can't find the command, appallingly bad interface.
  3. I have been having apparently insoluble problems with PM 1.89-- latest version. Playback skips all over the place. And, I have found it impossible to use DSD, which is the only reason I have any interest in computer audio. I have no idea where to put DSD downloads so that I can use them. If they are on my MacBookPro hard drive, they vanish if I use the "add Flac/DSD" command in the menu. If I drag them onto the external HD where the music is stored, some of them are copied and others are ignored -from the same folder!- and the system cannot locate them in any case. Locate files? How does that work? Decades of daily work with computers seems of no avail. I have never been so frustrated by anything in audio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  4. Another beginner question: When I drag DSD files into the pop up window in Pure Music to "Add FLAC DSD files," they are apparently copied. However, they cannot be played. A message comes up that says "locate file" and then, when it has been found, another message another message appears that says "open." Only the files cannot be opened or played. Furthermore, Pure Music (and apparently iTunes) will not allow files to be moved from one folder to another, so one gets an endless list of tracks. For classical music this is worse than useless. Why can't an entire album be dragged into iTunes? Why can't albums be in separate folders? Why can't the newly added files be played? What is going on? Nothing else in computer land acts like this; dragging and dropping files and folders is a primitive operation.
  5. Thanks 1.5. The Audio Midi was set at 384 KHz, not 192 KHz (the sample rate of the file I wanted to play). Maybe that was it. iTunes integration is on (checked). I thought that A+ automatically chose the sample rate and that the Audio Midi utility could be ignored. Should I also add a new device on the Audio Midi Panel? If so, what should it be called? The device is "USB-X", which is the name of the small device that provides the link between the computer and the MPS-5, so I think that is correct. I cannot see any way to set it to "MPS-5." DSD was not set to DOP 1.1 standard (although the option in A+ is DOP 1.0). The computer sees the DAC, but I don't think the DAC sees the computer (if that is possible): the DAC window says "USB no lock" whatever that means. It has not been easy (possible) to reach Playback Designs (a bad week since CES is on). Thank you for you help.
  6. I get no sound with my MPS-5. The display on the MPS-5 says USB NO lock. What's that? How can I fix this? Totally at a loss.
  7. I am unable to get any sound from A+ using a MacBookPro and a Playback Designs MPS-5. I cannot figure it out (obviously or I would contact you). The computer tells me the music is playing but no sound. I've tried everything and still nothing. The DAC-CD player say "No Lock" USB. The computer sees the DAC, so perhaps it is a communication problem. Any suggestions?
  8. I have a question that shows i am a true aborigine: I downloaded A+, thought I had set everything up properly by reading the manual, etc. No sound. It seems to be playing since the A+ window is following the music, but whatever I do I still get only silence. My DAC is a Playback Designs MPS-5, which ought to work; i.e it seems to be connected and A+ sees it, and my MacBookPro should have enough memory (4 GB), so I am at a loss. Any advice would be appreciated.
  9. Having read the first 51 posts about this recording, two things are very surprising: anger at the price, and, even more astonishing, hostility to Blue Coast. One can borrow a copy of a cd from a library and make a copy, get an LP, an SACD, or in have any version at any price. None will equal a copy of the original DSD master. If that is too expensive, then don' buy it. It is hard to see now it could be inexpensive. Ad hominum comments about the value of the work itself, or its obviously dedicated producers seem completely beside the point. The greatness of Mahler's Symphony no. 1 is not in question. Kudos to Blue Coast for making it available! It is cause for celebration.
