  1. Sorry my first post was unclear, I'm using ISO2DSF. I ran the .bat file to add the "SACD ISO TO DSF PER TRACK" option to context menus. I did look at the pictures of the require files, and I believe I have all of them in the correct folder. I attached a picture of the folder below. This is what I get when clicking on the sacd iso file and selecting "SACD ISO 2 DSF PER TRACK" from the file context menu. I see the "can't read master TOC" message, so I guess I have a problem with my iso file.
  2. I could use a little help. I have an iso file trying to convert to DSF files. I use the dsd2dsf context menu option, and it says success, but all it creates is a cue file. Is that all I'm supposed to get? Then when I try to open the cue file, I get an error "no file found". The cue file is created in the same folder with the source iso I'm trying to split into individual DSF tracks.
  3. Just reading this thread. "Monster" is still up at HD Tracks. Anyone know if they've ever substituted the files or if its the same bad downmix? Surprised they still have it up when they know its bad. Well, not too surprised, actually.
  4. Glad you're enjoying it, but I assume you are comparing it to the 90's remastered CD, which added a significant amount of compression compared to the original release. The original 1988 CD comes out as DR13. The 90's remasters weren't the worst of the decade - they were listenable, but they were compressed.
  5. Thanks for the pictures and comments, squarebab. I'm most interested in Panorama and Door To Door, as there have never been very good sounding releases of these on CD. The original Panorama CD is too bright and the HDCD remaster is too loud/compressed. Door To Door, while dynamic on CD, has always sounded harsh to me. I'm curious to know how these are EQ'd compared to the CD releases.
  6. Still loud, but more relaxed and less immediately headache inducing. I've only listened on my computer so far, though. I'll transfer the files to my portable hard drive and then play them through my Oppo later.
  7. Finally bit the bullet on this release using the 20% off coupon, and was surprised to find out it actually IS more dynamic than the CD. 8. But this is not industrial at all. This is not the sound of Broken or much of The Downward Spiral. Hesitation Marks sounds much closer to Pretty Hate Machine in style, and the music does sound (to me) like it would benefit from leaving dynamics intact. This album is by no means a barrage of sound. I think the inaccurately labeled "audiophile version" sounds slightly better, but its not at all what I hoped for and expected given the pre-release statements by Reznor.
  9. I think it's a shame they used the shorter edit version of "Legs" rather than the full album version.
  10. The old CD may have had a high end boost, which can artificially juice the dynamic range. That's speculation, of course.
  11. Thanks for the comments Pewter. Would you be able to post a DR log for the release you downloaded? I'm most hopeful for a different (more dynamic) mastering for the new one "North", but from your reference to 90's releases, I'm guessing you downloaded one of the older Matchbox Twenty titles.
  12. Since this was one of the releases where you could buy an individual track rather than the whole thing, I bought "Flesh" to give it a shot. Sounded just as bad as the original CD, which was an early loudness war victim. Nothing here to make a purchase worthwhile.
  13. Hello, newbie here. Any comments on this release? I'm not a big Matchbox 20 fan, but I do like the new song "She's So Mean". I'm curious to find out if the HD Tracks release has any more dynamics than the commercial CD, which is squashed to hell (according to the DR report). I'm not one who believes hi-rez offers anything when the dynamics are nil, but if this is a case where the source is prior to some of the limiting applied to the CD, I'm in.
