  1. Ha! That restart trick worked!!!!! It's working with the minimserver/mconnect combo as well as the bubbleupnp server/lumin combo. Wow, that's really really helpful, I was going crazy! Thanks so much!
  2. Ahh. I see! I've really messed this whole thing up. I have minimserver (which I installed previously because I read to do that on a few different threads) and Bubbleupnp Server installed on the QNAP, I also have Bubbleupnp Server installed on the microrendu. I now know why I could not get Bubbleupnp installed on my iOS device (thanks for getting me out of that sinkhole). I did however, figure out how to install mconnect and Linn Kazoo on my iOS device. These control point apps see the minimserver I set up on the qnap. I see all the music via the minimserver on the control point apps and I can play it on my phone, but I still cannot get the renderer to be shown on any software I try except for Roon Server. I have made sure I am in MDP/DLNA mode on the microrendu. The fact I can play music via my NAS to my stereo via Roon Server means that I am corrected properly, no? Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the reply! I could not figure out how to install BubbleUpnp on the QNAP, but finally did after your reply. I still cannot figure out how to piece this together though as the microrendu is not showing up as a render in BubbleUpnp. However, I see a mont ago somebody started a similar topic. I'll piggyback off of that one. Thanks again
  4. So the gf recently 'allowed' me to splurge and get a Levinson integrated for the apartment, as it removed some of the many, what she labels 'boxes ans wires'. I purchased the microRendu also hoping that, with a NAS, I could remove the CAPS I have and totally remove the computer from the audio system. My setup is currently QNAP TVS-871 NAS to microRendu to the integrated amplifier. I am currently using Roon Server installed on the QNAP NAS on the 60 day trial, and it works pretty well. Is there another option besides Roon to accomplis removing the computer from the system, as Chris' initial review of the microRendu stated (and attached this pretty picture shows): "Inserting the microRendu into this chain enables one to remove the music server entirely.... The new playback path is simply NAS to microRendu to audio system." Any help would be extremely appreciated. I've been trying to figure this out for a good long while.
  5. I guess by virtue of not being able to run on batteries future macs would have to include at least 1 extra port for data and 1 more for video, but I'm skeptical of how many more. Would also mean purchasing new higher end cable if I bought a mac for a server, ugggg. I guess it's not as bad a situation in my op though, but these 1 port models are not ideal from an audio perspective in that you cant keep your dac plugged in unless you don't mind a crappy plastic adaptor in your signal chain or swapping the wires when you want to listen to music.
  6. That's the thing - if there will only be 1 USB 3.1c port isn't that kind of a big deal for DAC makers? Most people I know with a DAC use it with their MBP or macmini with a LPS. Where would one put the DAC in these one port machines? Which ties into my next semi-rhetorical question: Are we looking at a need for DAC makers to make sweeping changes in their design? I mean, they aren't going to abandon people with new macs, no?
  7. Can't believe nobody has brought this up yet. Todays Apple announcement brought us a less powerful but fanless MacBook Air. I got a little exited for the possible audio implications. But then I saw they have only 1 USB-C port. Just 1! And then it dawned on me, this is apple of the future. The push to not need data transfer because you are supposed to stream content wirelessly via other hardware. What a bummer! I could easily see no macs beyond the desktop only having 1 port within 5 years. Am I being paranoid? New Apple MacBook vs. MacBook Air: Ultra-Thin Laptop Showdown | News & Opinion | PCMag.com
  8. Just made the wires and the computer is running. Could not be any easier. Buy a USB cable and buy a sata power cable. Cut the ends off that you don't need to make connections. Look at this diagram that somebody provided in the other thread: http://media.bestofmicro.com/Power-Supply-Fundamentals,8-I-312642-13.jpg Splice the red wire in the USB with the red wire in the sata (5+V red) and splice the black usb wire with the black sata wire labeled GND in the link (the one near the red). remove the other wires. done. Remove the 12+V wire and its ground (the yellow and the neighboring black) If somebody reads this and I'm wrong and my computer is working via miracle, please chime in.
  9. Wont work. That cable is for Sata Data. I just bought the Anker and am going to make my wires this week. Check this thread, on this section of the thread: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f10-music-servers/cheap-music-server-power-tweak-very-good-18057/index4.html
  10. I'd like to revisit a section of the CAPS v3 build's write up as it pertains to this build: mSATA drives are much more like computer memory in size and appearance. These drives are solid state and fit directly into the motherboard without any cables. Even though the DN2800MT board has mSATA capability the Carbon design doesn't use this slot. The server is still very easy to build but absolute simplicity was outweighed by the desire for a lower power SSD that requires internal power and SATA cables. I guess my question is, why not use a mSata drive in v3 when it's the only way to go in v4? Is the technology better now? Is it because it's a means to an end in v4? Is it a power thing? Just curious.
  11. Hey blownsi. Thanks for the help thus far. Final question (I promise): I have the OpenUPS program configured, and it's wired to the battery and the motherboard's internal power input, but I haven't the slightest clue how to safely connect my charger to the OpenUPS (I have one with Anderson connectors). How did you do it? If I need a new charger I'll gladly get a new one to make this work. The adaptor I found via google seems to have some negative reviews. I'm looking to avoid splicing together my own wires, but will do so if I must. Thanks a million!
  12. Hey, thanks for the quick response. Much appreciated! I'm going to go for it. I may be overthinkining it, but I'll pick up a battery once I have my hands on it. I had the idea to pick up this battery because it fits the case perfectly. I was positive about it working till I saw their recommended battery, which were grouped cells. Now I'm a bit confused. Customize LiFePO4 26650 Battery: 12.8V 9.9Ah (126.72Wh, 7A rate) with PCB in Triangular Shape Thanks again
  13. I know Chris made quick mention of OpenUPS in his writeup of CAPS as an alternative option for battery power. I see the mini-box.com now recommends a highly affordable Li-FePO4 battery. Has anybody tried to take this on? I know I asked a couple of years ago, but I don't see anybody make mention of it. If anybody has, is it worth the effort of trying to figure it out? THanks all.
  14. ..so basically, it's not a zuma! (imagine arnold schwarzenegger voice)
  15. That's exactly right. Had to take measurements on a laptop, and transfer the measurement file with to the CAPS. This is a bit of a pain in the ass because ARC only lets you install the program in 1 OS, so if you have a mac your SOL unless you torrent. That is not to say that it's impossible to take the measurements on the CAPS, but I could not figure it out. Might be a Windows 8 issue, might be a motherboard issue, but I could not correctly set the inputs and outputs in ARC2. I could also possibly have been unlucky or dumb. Long story short; it may be possible but not in my ability. I think ARC makes you install the entire program, but I uninstalled what I didn't need afterwards. Not 100% sure about this.
