  1. Occasionally, when I select a song or album from iTunes, Audirvana will play the next song from the next album. If I play the song in iTunes without Audirvana running, the correct song plays through the computer speaker. Is this a correctable problem?
  2. I am wondering when it is appropriate or desirable to upsample and when it is not. What drives decisions on parameters. Thanks
  3. Sat down and listened for a few hours. Wow, very nice. My Moon DAC has only been "on" for 24 hours, and it sounds pretty good to me. It does have some artifact that I think will go away with burn in. Overall I am very pleased. One more settings question for today. On playback I noticed that my volume seemed attenuated and when I checked settings I found that the volume is infact attenuated by about 50%. Is there a reason for this? I set it to attenuate to about 15% and that should be OK.
  4. Thanks Musicophile. This is enough for me for a while. Time to listen to the music!!
  5. First things first would be Audio Device I guess. On Audio device, I would assume "Native DSD Capability" should be "Automatic Detection". I have no idea what DSD to PCM Algorithim would be appropriate. I have "64 bit Multistage" selected. Then, low level playback options. I would think this to be critical to psycho-acoustics and "atmosphere" so I imagine choices are important. I have all 3 options checked. Is this a computer cpu load thing or DAC thing? Audio Filters, Converter? iZotope 64-bit SRC? Apple coreaudio? I have "iZotope 64-bitSRC" selected and I am not messing with advanced parameters. Which is the "better" selection for me. Is this a DAC thing? I have selected None for Forced Upsampling for the time being. This might get me started. I have not decided if I will "buy" Audirvana or Pure Music. I am tending towards Audirvana due to simplicity but only have a few more days of evaluation left. I will look at FLAC vs AIFF vs ALAC after above concepts sorted out. thx
  6. As a beginner, trying to navigate the settings for Audirvana ( or any of these software ) is challenging. There is a lot of technology I am not familiar with. Same is true when selecting flac to wav or aiff. Anyone care to share. Whats a good starting point? What is a good reason to change a setting? Good primer thread? I imagine this is something that is asked frequently. I am playing cd rips and hd audio downloads in aiff and flac from my MacPro dual xeon running 10.7 to a Moon 300d v2 via Audiophillio 2/pure power to my preamp. thx
  7. I am just entering the computer audiophile world. I have sorted out the hardware issues (as best a beginner can). I have an iPhone, iPad and old 160MB iPod plus a fine old audiophile system. I have a MacPro dual Xeon running Snow Leopard. I believe that Pure Music will serve as my hi-fi playback source. I have my music now on one drive as an iTunes media library. I use iTunes match now that I have a good broad band internet connection. Years ago, I ripped most of my redbook CD's to iTunes but did not understand lossy vs lossless compression, so much of my CD library is mp3. I also downloaded a lot of tunes via iTunes. I will soon be re-ripping my CD's as wave only and downloading HDmusic as AIFF or FLAC. My questions is, how do I manage different libraries within either my iTunes or different software on the same machine. My goals are to keep all my downloaded music availible of my iPhone/iPad/iPod for travel and backgrownd music or multimedia household stuff and also keep high quality sound available and searchable on the same machine, for playback on my audiophile system. Only option I've found is via smart playlist using sample rate or suffix (.wav) to select. I would imagine this has been a well explored subject.
  8. The Theta DS Pro Gen II is working with my Theta transport. It is of 30 years old and has provided a lot of enjoyment. Whether it is a fixable problem or just out of capabilities for the unit, it is time for retirement. Thanks for the reply but my mind is made up. Time for a new (modern) DAC. I talked to a local hi-end shop who is trying to push the Simaudio Moon 300d. Looks like a good product but reviews are a bit reserved IMHO. Price is right though. Just for giggles, what are other good choices and experiences?
  9. I am modernizing. I have a Theta DSPro Gen II, before I buy into a new dac, I was hoping to evaluate my Computer -> audiophillia pure -> DAC for best sound. Currently is sounds very badly! High digital artifact ( in left channel - can't figure that piece out ). I know that I am most likely operating the DAC beyond it's abilities. I don't have the manual and am hoping someone here can tell me how to set up with pure music or Audirvana in terms of sample rate and bit length and so on. I would be logical to keep the sample rate at 44.1 and word length at 16bits. Is this correct? I am looking for hardware specific answers.
  10. John, perhaps others are intimidated by your pretense or what ever you would like to call it. I will call it as I see it. I can see you don't play well with others. What ever positives you may bring to this community is surely offset by your rude rants. You are about as full of yourself as anyone I have encountered recently. Do you play this game all the time or only when you feel really special? All I can say is Bah..humbug! As it is holiday time, I will detach from this thread...others, thanks for your kind efforts!
  11. Not sure my question deserves such contempt and elitism but your are correct, it is just your opinion. I am new to computer audiophillia. I have been out of the world of high end music reproduction for perhaps 20 years. It would seem the snobbery has not changed. I might regard myself a 2 channel analog audiophile dinosaur. I spent a lot of time looking for the most neutral "equipment" available. Although nothing is neutral it is certainly worth while considering that as part of whole gestalt. The concept of psychoacustics is a wonderful two headed dragon. It is where the goosebumps come from but it is also were the "Radio Shack digital LED alarm clock AC line conditioners" came from. As I am getting familiar with the computer digital player (a laughable concept from the 80's & 90's), I don't think it is too much to ask for a helping hand. John, you may considered yourself off the hook for further request for help from me. Peace and merry christmas
  12. Let me 'splain. I assume WAV is what FLAC needs to be converted to but there are several WAV options. I am assuming linear 64 bit floating point is optimal. Is this correct? What about AIFF? Is my choice directed by the DAC or by the FLAC source?
  13. I'm new to this. I am downloading HDCD in FLAC. To playback optimally, what format should these be converted to and what's the best software (Mac)?
  14. I am new to computer audio playback. I am in the process of selecting software. I am curious about how these software are supposed to effect the playback sound. It has been my goal to keep all parts of my system as neutral as possible. Nothing should purposely add anything to signal on playback. Yet, reading threads about these software, I am seeing many statements about how the latest version of such and such has bettered the sound. Statements such as "opened the low end", "better defined the soundstage", "cleaner top end"... you get my meaning. Is it accepted that these programs add color to playback? Is any software out there considered neutral to the playback? I hope this is making sense.
  15. I already have the MacPro Dual Xeon running Snow Leopard. I am looking at the Audiophilleo 2 with Pure Power. I am thinking that this product will allow me to really evaluate my current dinosaur DAC (Theta DS Pro) and upgrade/replace if needed. Am I correct in assuming the audiophilleo 2 is the same as the 1 without the display? This would put my entry at $1040. A sizable investment but reasonable if it's as good as reviewed.
