    HQ Player

Hi all. In my digital system (double PC with both using win server 2019 core mode) I've compared my resident server machine to the Win server 2019 GUI mode and windows 10 21H1. The final result was that win server 19 in core mode in the server is largely better sounding than others O.S. Now, from 4.14 version of HQ player is not more possible to update newer version after 4.13.1 on a win server core mode PC. Thinking about this, I've compared core mode + 4.13.1 with Win server 19 GUI mode + 4.15.3 but core mode plus 4.13.1 remains largely better sounding, so it's really a pity to kill the best sounding O.S. for lack of support. It will to hope a future support of future versions of HQP Server Core mode or is it become impossible? It will be possible to add the suitable DLL or It exists a not resolvable structural problems ?
  2. This evening I've tried to install new 4.14.0 on my server with Windows server 2019 in core mode + AO + Process Lasso. The program is apparently installed but it doesn't start. I'vn't tried to inactivate AO because the others versions was indifferent to AO during installation. Could be this program or this new version is not supported on Win server 2019 core mode?

    HQ Player

Hi, from the 4.8.0 I've noted some difficults to hang the ethernet signal on the NAA, often I must select more times setting window until the music starts properly. The 4.9.1 seems to me has solved the problem but trying the 4.9.2 I've noted that my server PC crash and restart every time. My system is Win server 2019 based in core mode on plus AO 3.0 plus Process lasso on both server and NAA. I cannot find a valid explication for this strange behaviour.
  4. I have one vodka and one diamond, I think about one or two years, whit any issue. It seems to me a real strange beahviour, no usual. Has you used something to clean the contact? I cannot suppose other cause of this phenomenon apart to use aggressive cleaner

I've tried to install the trial version 4.0 on win server 2019 core mode. Program seems correctly installed, this way no notice of dll lacking as on 2016, but program doesn't start. Any suggestion?
  6. Pico XT160 is a bargain and a fabulous PSU for a music server if you feed it with a really good LPS. The Pico not only is an affordable item but also absolutely free of problems, safe and reliable . The only problem is the quality of LPS and after a lot of test I've found the best Linear regulator to assemble a really good LPS in the Belleson SPZ 3A 12V https://www.belleson.com/ . This one, coupled with a R-core transformer, Schottky diode (best if silicon-carbide type), Mundorf AG+ and Claritycap 100uF(output) capacitors provides a very good quality current sufficient for every mobo. Obviously Pico will give only to the mobo both 5V and 3.3V but the quality of the clean current given by the LPS will be easily detectable also at a superficial listening. Another LPS 5V 1A will be assembled for the SSD feeding. Obviously if you go with an M2 SSD this one could be avoided. But if you want to feed a good PC server you'll need another fundamental LPS, always Belleson but most powerful if you need a powerful processor. So, in this case, an SPHP 10A 12V, always assembled with the same previous components, will go straight to processor pin. At the end one Pico and two or three Belleson based LPS will transform your PC in a true music machine. In my PC system ( a double PC HQplayer based with NAA) I've built 7 LPS Belleson based (also the ethernet connection is made with two TPLInk MC210 optical coupler each one feeded by a different and totally isolated LPS). Each onewas tested comparing different regulator (LT1083, LT3080, LM317 and so on) with Belleson and every time I've found a dramatic difference in favor of Belleson. The only real problem is the cost of each LPS, really a bit expansive, but if the quality of music is the aim of your hobby this It may not be a problem.
  7. Hi Edward I'll happy to meet you again and also to listen your server in some more "domestic" venue.
  8. In my NAA PC I usually use networkaudiod.exe put on a little ram-disk (200MB SCSI) because it sounds absolutely better than started from the SSD. I've tried the new tool for a NAA shell of Service Tool and I've found it very promising but starting from ram-disk is always better. So I ask how it's possible to change the address fom C:\ to Z:\ (the ram-disk) to start networkaudiod from ram-disk but in his shell.
  9. Hi all in my relatively complex digital system some days ago I've introduced Win Server 2016 (essential) on both Server and NAA PC. They are connected with a local direct network with this scheme PC server>ethernet cable(Vodka Audioquest)>TPLink MC210>fiber optical Cable>TPlink MC210> another Vodka Audioquest>PC NAA. No internet link and linear PSU with Belleson regulators for each TPlink, preserving a true galvanic isolation. Using last release 3.14.3 with NAD340 sound is astonished, a really step forward on sound quality, but....... how can I try new IPV6 connection in this way? I usually connect both PC with a IPV4 static address (very simple 10.0.0.1 in the server and 10.0.0.2 for the NAA) but I cannot find instructions about a static address link on IPV6. Is it possible? If possible how it will be the static IPV6 on each pc?
  10. Hi all I've listen to the Sounds Gallery Music Server in Munich, coupled with a good T+A DAC. The room was really larger than a domestic venue but it sounds gorgeous, with a great improvement passing from a 16/44,1 to DSD 512, as awaited. So, one good PC is better than two? I don't think, but surely it's easier to manage than a complex two pc setup. About NAA and superiority of a double PC-ethernet coupled configuration I whish to try this setup with this Music Server, because I'm shure that results must be stunning. But.......it's wrong, in my opinion, to use a little and cheap device as NAA machine, because NAA is in direct connection with the USB converter on the DAC and this means that only a very good machine, silent and with a really good PSU, with a good motherboard and a just as much good CPU (but a low TDP one!) can reach a really excellent sonic result. It's deceptive to think that a simple board, with a simple PSU, could be better than a good and clever PC, assembled with the aim to cover the NAA role. This NAA must be not a monster of powerful but only a monster of silence and quality. A 35 W CPU (also an i3 ), a really good linear PSU (very interesting the inductive PSU, Ed), good USB cable and Ethernet cables (this was a big surprise for me), adding also two optocoupler like TP-Link MC210 will reach the best sound quality, using the best connection now available. But is it enough? No, in my experience an optimal connection between two PC is not guarantee of good results if the Server PC is a bad PC. Galvanic isolation is only a part of the whole. Also the PC Server, expecially with HQplayer, must be the best one, balancing the best performance with the bets HW available. So I think that a single, well build PC like the SGMS is better than a two PC system , if not optimized. I don't think about microrendu or cubox as a definitive solution for the best possible sound quality nowadays
  11. I did a test with new AO beta 11 in my really complex system build on a HQplayer +NAA setup . A brief description is necessary: Server (HQplayer) Win Server 2012 R2 in core mode+ AO+ Process Lasso+ Primo Ramdisk (musical files and HQ player are charged on RAMdisk)+ Total Commander. The PC : Asus Z97i-plus + Intel i7 4390T+ single RAM 4 GB+ multiple Linear PSU for mobo (via picopsu XT160), CPU and SSD, all Belleson Super reguìator based. NetworkAudioAdapter (NAA) also Win Server 2012 R2+AO+Jplay+PrimoRamdisk+Process lasso+ Networkaudiod 311 (on ramdisk) PC: Gigabyte H67N-USB3 mobo+intel i3 2100T+ Single RAM 4GB,multiple linear PSU Belleson Superegulators based (as the server). I've called this set-up "the Pyramids" This system feeds only DSD files (upsampling redbook files 16/44.1 by HQplayer) to a no-dac machine (based on JLSounds I2SoverUSB interface+ first order LPF) The sound of this complex setup is really difficult to explain, but you can believe me if I tell you that is very very good and well balanced. So I've tried to compare my "official" NAA machine with the NAA-beta one, composed as the previous (same SW) but using Windows Server 2016 Tech.Prev. 4 in core mode+ AO beta 11. The beta one sounds clearer, more dynamic, with a deeper bass and a purer voices (male and female). His sound is so better respect to my official NAA that I'm still surprised. The only issue is that I cannot use KS (AO can't make it) and JPlay seems to me more critical and fragile than with Official NAA. The server, instead, can't work because drag n'drop is lacking on Tech Prev. 4, so it's impossible to charge musical files on HQplayer. Now I'm very curious to try new win server 2016 + AO in definitive version, because this match seems to me really better than the previous one.
  12. I use Belleson superregulators from 2010 to feed 5V and 12V onr PC and DAC, using a very simple schematic based on 78xx type regulator as follow As you can see this isn't a DC-DC schematic, because Belleson regulator doesn't work well in these way, it needs a good trafo, really good diodes, great capacitors and good heatsink, sometimes, better if little and helped by a low-speed silent fan (best silent fan are the NoiseBlocker). So an ATX PSU followed by a Belleson couldn't be a good choice, in my opinion My best results are been obtained with these components: Trafo: an R-core model, vastly better than every toroidal I've used Diodes: must be choice on the current request but only selected on Schottky model or Hexfred Leveling Capacitors: my best choice is Mundorf Mlytic Ag+, usually 6800 uF 80V. This is an incredible piece that permits a great jump in sound quality, also to feed PC Input capacitor: from foot 1 to ground could be a Russian Silver Mica or a Mundorf Supreme Output capacitors: you can omit the one on foot 2 but the 100 uF must be of quality. I've preferred the ClarityCap TC4, four terminals film capacitor to BlackGate electrolytic capacitors, for a greater sense of silense and cleanness. At the end this is is an huge and really expansive model of PSU, it requests a little expertise on diy and must be remembered that you are working with a potentially dangerous voltage but this is the best PSU I've tried until now. If you want use the Belleson this is the right way , IMHO (all Mundorf and Clarity Cap components are sold by Hificollective in UK and It seems to me also by Parts ConneXion in Canada)
  13. Hi all in my complex two pc system Hqplayer + NAA based ( all musical files are 16/44,1 upsampled to DSD 128), Win server 2012R2 in core mode+AO on both PC (set like single PC with network), jplay on NAA, Ramdisk on both, all feeded by linear PSU Belleson-based, with a no-dac (JLSounds I2S over USB interface with only a first order Low pass filter on DSD output) I've achieved a great sound quality and everything works very well. I'm now trying new Windows server 10 Technical Preview 2 using also the new beta 10 of AO but I can't see the KS activated in core mode. It's a pity because the sound of new Win Server seems to me clearly better than the previous 2012 R2 also setting Jplay in classic ( Xstream can't work without KS). Someone has solved this problem yet?
