  1. I just upgraded to Frodo - didn't touch a single setting, just upgraded - and the noise is gone. Audio sounds good. Thank goodness!
  2. Yea, it's not exactly distortion, it's a ringing noise (on that track at least) which you might think is supposed to be there if you haven't listened to the track elsewhere. I don't think it's a soundcard issue per se since I'm doing HDMI out, so that's why I was wondering how other people were getting good audio.
  3. That link sucked. My bad. This instead: http://www.filedropper.com/06-fantasy
  4. BTW - Just to give an idea of the type of noise I'm hearing, here's a sample track: 06 - Fantasy.mp3 :: Free File Hosting - File Dropper: File Host for Mp3, Videos, Music, Documents. At around 1:22 when the bass kicks in is where the noise on my XBMC setup starts and continues for a while. There's a high pitched buzzing/ringing that starts which cannot be heard when I listen to this anywhere else - only via my XBMC setup. I'd be interested to know if anyone else can hear this.
  5. I want to be using my receiver's DAC. If my receiver was doing the DA conversion I would expect to not be able to adjust the volume via XBMC - right?
  6. Indeed, my HTPC box doesn't have optical out, only HDMI and USB. I just checked the sample rate on my receiver when playing some 2 channel music using my current XBMC audio settings - it's 44.1.
  7. No, I assume it is being resampled, or at least being mucked with in some way since I can still control the volume level via XBMC when playing 2 channel audio. There doesn't seem to be a way to get direct passthrough with 2 channel which is what I'd expect. Even though I don't have an outboard DAC, I at least want my stereo receiver to do the DA conversion rather than my XBMC box. Will try that. Not yet, but I have no complaints at all about ASIO. It works great for me. This is news to me as well, though I'm not sure if this will work over my HDMI connection? Which audio/passthrough setting do you use? When I do aplay -l or aplay -L I only have one card listed for HDMI, and that's the one I'm using now (hw:0,3).
  8. I can also attest to Foobar + ASIO4All being much better than XBMC (I'm running OpenElec 2.0) using HDMI audio output with an audio/passthrough setting of hw:0,3 (corresponds to the HDMI output capable device/card).
  9. I've had the same question about OpenElect after just setting it up. I think you are right - volume adjustment should not be a good thing. Aside from that, I can hear noticeable distortion/noise on some songs. If you find a solution, please post it.
