Richard, Thank you for all of the great information. I've lurked around Computer Audiophile for over a year now but never posted. Your thorough response is appreciated. My situation is different than the original post in that I am looking to use my current Mac Mini in a second system (USB only unfortunately) and upgrade the void it leaves. I currently run a 2011 Mac Mini (2.3 GHz, i5, 8 GB, 500GB HD) with Amarra 2.6 and Pure Music. This feeds into a Weiss Dac202 via Firewire. I do not currently use a separate HD for music storage. (Above feeds a Cary Audio V12 tube amp, Sonus Faber Guarnieri Evolution and JL Audio F113.) I have switched over to file based music only. I do rip CDs but I do not have a CD player, etc. My plan is to make improvements to Mac Mini. Right now I am leaning towards a Mac Mini with 16 GB ram, 256 GB solid state drive and external Thunderbolt HD. Two Qs: * Any benefits going from dual core i5 to quad core i7? * Is Amarra with iRC worth it? Regards, Greg

Hi Richard, The external HDD. Is the Thunderbolt recommended over USB 3.0 or doesn't it matter? Greg
