  1. Thank you for the clarification! I'd love to update to the DSD version too and I'm saving up to do so. Hopefully soon. I'm really happy with the 24/96 model, so a better version of what I already have would be fantastic.
  2. Looks like the IR stays assigned to the same port each time. I'm only plugging in my DAC and the little usb dongle that connects to my mouse/keyboard. I even tried it with are hardwired usb mouse just to make sure that was not the problem, same result. It seems like no matter what I do (i think i've tired every combo possible) the Ayre never gets assigned either of the 2 USB High-Speed Bus ports. Below are a few screen grabs of what I am seeing when I switch the cables around between my 4 usb slots on the back of my iMac. Like I said before, other devices such as my portable HD and other DAC show up under the High-Speed Bus port(s). Is it possible that the original 24/96 version of the QB-9 is not compatible with these ports and therefore never get assigned to them?
  3. When I had the minimax it looked exactly the same as the example on the ayre site. I thought the same thing, that if i just switched out the minimax with the QB-9 that it would be assigned to the same unshared port, but that was not the case. I also see the bluetooth IR as being shared with on some ports. I'll keep switch diffent combos with trial and error. Along with my DAC I have an 2tb external HD, and a wireless dongle for my mouse and keyboard. The external harddrive seems to get assigned to the unshared port most often in many of the different configurations that i've tried.
  4. Hello, I was curious if anyone had experience with the Ayre QB-9 24/96 model and finding a unshared USB port. Or, if this is even necessary/possible with the 24/96 version. In the set up instructions on the ayre website: https://www.ayre.com/usb-dac-apple.htm There is a technique of trail and error until the QB-9 is the only device listed under the "USB High Speed Bus" in the USB tree in system information. I have 4 usb slots on my iMac and tried switching around my usb devices until it looks like the image on the set up instruction with no luck. Is this because it's the 24/96 version and the high speed bus is only used for higher bitrates? I previously had a minimax plus and got that to be unshared high speed USB with the same machine. Please advise. Thank you!
  5. I store my music files locally on my Imac (early 2009 version) with a 2 TB hard drive. I just use time machine for backups. When I use Jriver to play the .iso files which are at 64bit/352.8KHz the DSP is set to convert to 176.4KHz, this uses 13-15% CPU on my machine...not to bad.
  6. My curiosity is that my dac, like most, does up to 24/192. So some down sampling is done with the .iso files regardless. I'm just wondering if I should do it by converting to FLAC or letting Jriver do it on the fly with its dsp studio feature. Or am I just splitting hairs here?
  7. Just discovered that Jriver mac will play my .iso files from SACD's straight up and separate the tracks, which is awesome, way to go JRiver. My question is: These .iso files have super high bitrates like 64/352.8, my dac (like most dacs) only handles up to 24/192. So Jriver resamples with its DSP. Would it better better practice to convert the .iso's to flac at bitrate my Dac can handle or allow Jriver to do the DSP thing. any input would be great. Thanks!
  8. Thanks, I'll look into that USB, seem right for the price. I was also thinking for the longer coax cable running the Belden digital cable that Blue Jeans Cable sells, maybe 12 feet or so. Anyone have experience with this length of the Blue Jean digital cable?
  9. Hey everyone, my built in DAC on my excellent Stello AI 500 only does 24/192 with the coax input. So since the Stello U3 USB to Coax converter is well reviewed and the same manufacture I figured I'd pick one of these up to see if it made a difference to me. I need a very short USB maybe a foot if that, to run to the Stello U3 from my IMAC. Then a longer digital coax cable, 12 feet or so to make it to my DAC. I have about 200 bucks to spend on cables, just looking for something quality. Used or new. Thanks for the input! Currently I am running a medical grade glass toslink cable out from my Imac, using Jriver Mac as my player. I like this set just wanting to experiment with a different configuration for my 24/192 files.
  10. Hey everyone, i'd appreciate some help or tips for using JRiver. I am trying it out to see if I like the interface as well as the iphone/ipad remote control apps for JRiver better than Itunes. First question is there anything I have to do within the settings to get bit-perfect audio out from the program? I just imported my music, some apple lossless, some FLAC and hit play and the "bit perfect" light is on...so I assume i'm good on that front, the only thing i set was, the disable volume setting. (I'm running a toslink out from from Imac) Second question is what are your preferred setting/layout for the interface? How do you use it and how is your library set up? Some screen shot would be helpful. Im just interested in getting the most out of this program to see if I like it more than itunes + Amarra. Thanks!
  11. Just an interesting premise to think about, I have loads of apple lossless files that I converted from FLAC and then deleted the original FLAC. Now I want to convert some of those Apple lossless files back to flac. Any damage to original FLAC file? All conversions done with MAX.
  12. I have an Electrocompaniet integrated amp that powers my speakers. Synergy wise is that going to make any difference towards the positive end having a DAC and Components made by the same company.
  13. I am leaning towards the Electrocompaniet ECD-1 dac because my local shop has one used that I am going to audition this weekend. It is hard to find info about Electrocompaniet products review wise online, but they are supposed to make very fine products. I am running a toslink directly from my Imac, source is itunes with amarra. Might get a Squeezebox down the road, either way usb is not a must for me. Also considering an older esoteric dac. lots or choices indeed, the dac world is very flooded theses days its hard to weed through them all without having a listen to each one I get interested in.
  14. Looking at picking up a new DAC and reading all the great things about the wyred 4 sound products. I was also looking at the Electrocompaniet ECD-1 anyone have any experience with this piece. Great style and supposed to be a killer DAC.
  15. good advice on products. I was thinking too of i was going to spend some bucks on converter type products, I might as well pick up a sqeezebox touch.
