  1. What a great reply...someone who read my post, looked at my situation and responded clearly. Thank-you dnoyeB!
  2. Using Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and iTunes 11.0.1 and an AppleTV3 I was experiencing occasional drop outs with and without Audirvana+ 1.4.2. The problem is well documented in Apple Discussion forums. Having Airfoil in the chain solved this. The solution was to create another network (5GHz) that AirPort Extreme is quite capable of doing (along side the 2.4GHz) with a couple of mouse clicks. This upped the transmit rate from 54 to 108. Here are a coupe of links on how to do it. Best of both worlds: Setting up Wi-Fi for iOS on 2.4 and 5GHz | Ars Technica Getting the most out of Apple
  3. Airfoil solves the Airplay problem of drop outs. These drop outs occur when streaming from iTunes to the ATV3 without running Audirvana. I can duplicate this AND it's documented by many angry posters on Apple's discussion forums. It's an Airplay problem between iTunes and ML. Airfoil solves this for me.
  4. Hey Alex, If by "extremely intermittent" you meant drop outs, then I too am experiencing this. I just finished giving 1.4.2.1 a go and the drop outs are still there. I have read and tested that its a problem with ML 10.8.2 and iTunes 11.0.1 I'm back to putting Airfoil in the chain.
  5. You're not losing quality. I have a similar setup. Your ATV is upsampling the cd resolution you're feeding it, albeit very little. The DAC is then upsampling to the tune of 8X! I would try the easy stuff first. Convert within iTunes the ALAC files to AIFF and move them to an external drive... USB2 is fine. Have you "optimized" your computer to just play audio or is it doing double duty?
  6. Paul, I read what you linked to and it sounds as though a managed switch is overkill in MY situation. I cannot see the need for a traffic cop or prioritization when I'm the only "USER". No multi-tasking here, no sirree! If the price difference is negligible, then I'll go with the managed.
  7. Even though I've had good success with an AirPort Extreme wireless home network, I'm going to plunge into the world of wired. The prompt came from a possibility of purchasing a Simaudio Mind 180. They suggest wired for any file larger than 16/44.1. Also, the AppleTV 3 is bing used more and more for HD rented movies. I've only had one "pause" in about 10 rentals. Devices connected to the switch would be the AppleTV, Oppo BDP-93, and a future purchase of a Mind 180 and a NAS. I would only be using one device at a time. What is there to "manage" given this setup? Any device (model number) recommendations would be helpful.

    Audirvana 1.4

[sOLVED] It's an Airplay problem with iTunes (11.0.1) and Mountain Lion (10.8.2). I took Audirvana out of the equation and just used iTunes streaming to the AppleTV.

    Audirvana 1.4

The above problem is still the same for 1.4.1.

    Audirvana 1.4

The Airplay option (Preferred Audio Device) produces drop outs for me. This is solved by using Airfoil and selecting "built in output" for Preferred Audio Device in A+; Direct Mode and Integer both unchecked.
  11. This replay business STOPPED happening when I disconnected my external drive (i.e iTunes library) from the AirPort Extreme (via USB) and connected it directly to the iMac. All is fine and sounding wonderful! And yes, I use the remote app exclusively.
  12. ML >> USB >> Moon 300d .11 plays without dropouts but see below Same here....happens occasionally. My library is on an external drive connected to my AirPort Extreme. ML >> AirPlay >> Apple TV >> Moon 300d Audirvana freezes when Direct and Integer OR Direct is checked Dropouts occur when Direct and Integer are UNCHECKED.
  13. Btw, SQ with Direct Mode and Integer Mode NOT checked on 1.3.9.10.8. is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than 1.3.5 and 1.3.9.7.
  14. I'm finally having success with 1.3.9.10.8 Here are my settings. What was interesting was after selecting 2ch-16 integer when Direct and Integer were checked, it would ALWAYS revert back to 1ch-16 integer. When I got the 2ch to "stick" (by unchecking Direct mode and Integer) the hiccups stopped.
