  1. I honestly didn't know how to go about it and thought I'd read up a bunch here and design my own. Mojo and Core have a lot of people in favor and against them, but at some point I thought I'd go for it and I'm very very happy. I just called Mojo directly and had them give me the best bang for the buck so they ordered the Mac Mini directly, they did all the work and charged just $199 for the labor. Including the Joule II hard wired, Mac Mini i7, 2.3, 128GB SSD and 10 RAM (I thought it was 90GB SSD but I just checked) and all Level 2 filters etc was about $2200 shipped with isolation feet. If I did it myself I probably could've saved a few bucks but I got it in a week and it's been great. I think if you talk with Mojo they can sell you one at any level. I'm certain there's very little difference between the i5 with Level 1 filters and my i7 with Level 2. Just go with what your checking account is comfortable with and I think you'll be happy. Good luck. Jim
  2. I use the Mojo Audio Mac Mini with a hard wired Joule II power supply either headless (Screens VNC, Remote via ipad or screen sharing via MacBook Air) or occasionally with a plasma display. It has 10gb ram with a 90gb SSD running Audirvana+ with most other programs disabled. I use a 1TB Thunderbolt HD and USB to a modded Audiolab M-DAC which I use as a pre-amp to PrimaLuna DiaLogue 7 monoblocks to Sonus Faber Auditor M's. It works best with the big display but its nice to run it either way. Sounds a lot better than the MacBook Air too.
  3. I love mine. I wanted to use a Mac/iTunes/Audirvana so this was the best route for me. My system has the iTunes library on a FireWire external HD. The internal 90GB SSD HD has 10GB RAM, and has all the Mojo mods at level 2, and hard wired to the LPS, with only vital Mountain Lion programs, iTunes and Audirvana Plus. I control it all via iPad. Output from the Mojo is to a Audiolab M-DAC with John Westlake's (the original Audiolab designer who now started up Lakewest) Lakewest firmware via USB (tried several USB cables and blindly picked my free USB cable that came with an old HD - currently using a Furutech since its paid for. Then analog into Anthem D2v pre/pro, A5 amp to PSB Platinum T8 speakers. jim
  4. It's only my second post here, but I've had mine for about 4 months after exhaustive trials, and have heard nothing better under $2000. It did take a week or two that I left it on 24/7. I also updated the software through this site: M-DAC - Wikkii.Org that John Westlake puts out. The software also gives you a screen dimming and other non audio tweaks. Mine is used with a modified Mac Mini by Mojo Audio and my external HD is connected via thunderbolt not USB. Audirvana is the music player. The USB cable doesn't seem to matter much, but I bought a Furutech 0.5M and so I'll keep it on. Jim
  5. This is my first post at CA. I found this sight while researching Mac mini music servers. I am fairly computer illiterate but have done a lot of research in the past three months and settled on the Mojo Audio Joule 2 and ordered mine the day the newest Mac Mini became available. It arrived last Friday and I have been very pleased. It was $2300 shipped with the newest Mac mini and I believe 10 or 16GB RAM, all 3 second option filter upgrades, SSD drive, Audirvana and hard wired together. I was surprised it didn't come with a power cord but Benjamin sent one out the second I questioned it. I stole one off my old Arcam CD player and it worked. The key is it sounds wonderful, looks professional and solid and works flawless. It sounds far better than my Macbook Air and as good as anything I've heard. To me it was clearly worth the money and I am very very happy and no headaches trying a DIY thing myself. I'm glad I ordered one and I think I have gotten a great deal. It cost me half of the Naim system I was thinking about and to me it sounds equally good or better. and from what I learned hovering on this and a few other sites... It has a 1TB thunderbolt external HD with a Furutech 0.5M USB to an Audiolab M-DAC with WestLake software to an Anthem D2V to to an Anthem A5 amp and finally PSB Platinum T8 speakers Jim in CA (california)
