I have built a very nice high efficiency system in my smallish listening room over the past few years that provides me with a lot of musical enjoyment. It consists of a Nottingham TT, TRL modified SACD/CD player, modified Eastern Electric Minimax preamp, a homemade power conditioner (Felix), Reality IC's & speaker cable, Kaplan PC;s, SET amplifier, & a pair of Omega single driver speakers. It's magical.
I am a cheapskate audiophile, picked up all of my components used with exception of my TT and cartridge - all for around $5.5K.
I have purposely avoided taking the plunge into a computer audio system until there was a simpler, more elegant, cheaper way to put together a hi rez digital system. What do I mean?
Something like this...
Source w/ great software - Integrated cable w/ DAC - Powered Speakers
OR
Source w/ great software - Integrated cable w/ DAC - to my existing preamp - etc.
So do you think something "truly transformative" currently exist in this type of configuration now for ~$2K? Will it in a couple years?
I should point out I have Verizon FIOS service to my home, so downloading/listening to hi rez music is feasible.
Thanks to all in advance for your replies as I venture down the computer audiophile hi rez highway.
