  1. Not sure if this forum is the right place to ask, but I am planning on connecting my Auralic Aries to my DAC via AES/EBU and then I'm using balanced XLR interconnects between the DAC (which also functions as a preamp) and my power amplifier. All things being equal, is there either a "minimum" or "Ideal" cable length I should use?? I recall reading somewhere that 1.5m is the minimum cable length to use... don't recall the reasoning behind that. Given the cost of high-end audio cables, I would prefer to use the shortest practical length. Thanks! Phil
  2. Stephan: Thanks for the photo..... it appears as though you attached the board to the chassis through the bottom of the case....just confirming? Phil
  3. Stephan: I was able to get the board to power up with the HD-Plex PSU without any problems and I did find the black mounting plate, Still can't figure out how to secure the internal PSA to the FC10 chassis though.... did not see any holes that lined up with the board. Would you mind posting a couple of photos that show how you did it?? Much appreciated!! Phil
  4. Stephan: Good news! I will install the 250W DC PSU tonight..... I didn't notice any mounting plate with the HD-Plex but I will look again in the box. BTW, photos are always welcome!! Phil
  5. Stephan: Thanks for the reply.... I'm curious if you found a way to: 1. Mount the HD-Plex internal 250W DC ATX PSU somewhere in the case..... The holes on the board don't seem to line up with any stand-offs in the case. I can't think of anything other than simply laying the board down in the case. Not a great solution since in can just move around freely at that point. 2. find a neat way to route the connector cable from the external PSU to the internal PSU. The Streacom FC10 has a pre-cut hole for mounting a DC input on the back of the case but the connector supplied with the HD-Plex units does match up to it. I saw in Chris' setup that he just has the wires running out of the small hole provided by the case and the connector sits outside of the case in the rear. Phil
  6. The folks at Small Green Computers are supposedly offering the Pipeline with Chris' exact spec, right down to the HD-Plex PSU. I wonder how many they have built and if they had any issues with any of the components...... Phil
  7. I just completing ordering all the parts (per Chris' spec) for the CAPS 4 Pipeline, including the HD-PLEX power supplies and I am a little disturbed to hear about the issues several people are having in getting the system to boot..... I assumed prior to ordering that Chris had successfully built and tested the server per the specs (although he did not include any photos of the actual server that he built) and I know that Small Green Computer is offering the exact unit as well so I am assuming it should run. I am planning on receiving all the parts this week and building the server over the weekend. I will update this thread with my own results. I appreciate all the advice so far, particularly Adam's excellent "tutorial" he recently posted!! Phil
  8. I am in the process of building a CAPS 4 Pipeline and I am deciding whether to go with the SOtM PCIe USB card or the ESI Juli@ XTe. My DAC (a BelCanto) has coaxial inputs but no USB inout so if I go with the SOtM card, I would have to get the uLink USB-->Coax converter. The Juli@ card was very highly rated in The Absolute Sound soundcard review. Just looking for opinions on overall sound quality based on my two alternatives!! Thanks in advance, Phil
  9. My bad..... I was referring to the SOtM PCIe board which I believe uses the PCIe x1 interface. I'm liking for a suitable riser card for that board to interface with the SuperMicro mobo. Phil
  10. Can anyone recommend a riser card for the SuperMicro mobo that can be used for the SOTM PCI USB Card??? Thanks!!!!
