  1. Thanks for the help thus far. As Chris suggested, I'm trying out Media Monkey with WAV files and have not heard the issue yet. Like I said it's intermittent so it may be a while. I've gotta run now, but will try again later and report back. Thanks again! Cheers!
  2. And I can get a great deal on them... but shipping is EXPENSIVE! If you want to round up a bunch of interested parties, I can place a decent size order. I actually have the Black/Silver case which matches all my Rotel Gear Perfectly. However I'm switching to McIntosh stuff and may sell this one and get the all Black version. I built 2 at the beginning of the year - a "Mini" and a "Classic". The mini was a pain - all around and really wasn't practical with sound cards, video cards, etc. If your interested, I can probably shoot you some pics of each or give more details. No back to my problem... HEAT: if it is a heat issue, can I take the opposite approach and load it up to make it hotter to see if it skips more? The reason I ask is that it's an intermittent issue and may be easier to find the fix if I can narrow down the culprit faster. If so, is there a program or something to use put the system under load?
  3. it's not the CD skipping as I have over 3000 ripped to my HD and it does this on occasion with any stored music. Although, it does sound like a poorly ripped CD sometimes - but that's not the case. 1. I'm using a custom single XLR out cable from Redco.com going straight to a MDA1000 DAC. Not sure how to run the output signal back in. Is it a setting or an actual connestion? 2. I'm using WMP11 with music stored in WMA Lossless (don't stone me, it was easy & convenient). 3. I really haven't tried other players as I have been using WMP for about 5 years now with good success. 4. yep, the power supply is small... I bought the 600W big brother version, but it was too big. The case is awesome, but doesn't allow for std. size power supplies. I'm still looking for the perfect / fanless / silent / "External" Power Supply. Any ideas. Do you think the PS is too small? It performed flawless before the Lynx for about 6 months. 5. the video card has a heatsink which keeps it relatively cool. I do have a case fan which does a so/so job and is on a thermostat dial and controls the speed as well. I'm using the Lynx Driver Version 2.0.16.0 Here's the temps right now while running 24/7: MB - 36C CPU - 28C CPU Core 1 - 36C CPU Core 2 - 34C HD - 34C I'm not sure if these numbers are good or bad...
  4. First of all, I'd like to say thank you to all that have offered input in the past here and helped me out. Lots of great info! Well, I installed a new AES16 card a few weeks ago without a hitch - basically a plug and play installation which I wasn't expecting. I've tried a variety of setting, but keep resetting back to the standard settings if/when I have issues. The card sounds great, but I'm having occasional jitter issues that sound sort of like a skipping record. If I hit pause / play, it usually goes away for a while. I never had any "noticeable" issues with audio from the motherboard or any of my previous DIY PC's. I'm using WASAPI in exclusive mode on Vista 64. Any advice? Here's the rest of the specs on my PC which I have been very pleased with: HFX Classic - ATX Heatsink Case ASUS P5Q3 DELUXE/WIFI-AP Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 Wolfdale 3.16GHz BorgFX CPU Deluxe Copper Heatpipe Cooler CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) Lynx AES16 PCI Audio Card HIS Hightech H467P1GP Radeon HD Video Card Silverstone ST30NF Fanless Power Supply Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 10000 RPM SATA Drive for OS Western Digital Caviar Green 2TB SATA Drive for Storage 2 - Smart Drive 2002C Enclosure HFX® Safety Control System (Fan + FanAmp) Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit Thanks for the help!
  5. Well, I took your guys advice and emailed Chris Stubbs at Redco.com and he gave me 3 choices on cables... guess what?!? I have 3 new cables on the way! Mogami version Gotham Version Canare version all 2M with a single Neutrik Gold XLR connection. Should be very interesting... If I get bold, I may go visit one of the local dealers who has the Info-Link Straightwire version which costs 10x more. As for the WAV conversion, I may hold off a little longer. Hopefully Microsoft will release one for WMP11 in Vista. Not holding my breath. Thanks for the help guys!
  6. Bummer! Looks like it will take a lot of work to have all the Album Art moved over to match WAV. Not sure I'm ready to do it myself... maybe there's a new program or upgrade on the horizon that will do it quick and easy. I'll just sit back for a while and enjoy WMA Lossless for a little longer. Although it's nice to know how to convert it over now if I want to. Thanks for the help... you have a great forum here!!!
  7. Everything but Album Art... what's up with that? I like seeing 3000 albums whiz by when I'm scrolling! Any suggestions? Thanks, Kelton
  8. Hello Chris, Can I get some info on the Gotham cables - where to buy, approximate cost, etc. I just tried dBpoweramp and it's nearly there, but it doesn't transfer the album cover art for me. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help. Best regards, Kelton
  9. Well I've built several PC's over the years and started storing my music in WMA Lossless a long time ago. Now I want to convert 3000 Cd's worth over to WAV and simply continue down the WAV road... I'm using Vista and WMP11. I know windows has a converter for XP & WMP9, but of course I couldn't get it to work on my system. What is the best and easiest method to convert these files? Thanks for the help. Best regards, Kelton
  10. Since you asked, I'm using a Custom HFX Media PC (about as loud as a pet rock) --> Lynx AES 16 (just ordered) --> ?Cable? --> Mcintosh MDA1000 DAC --> Rotel RSP-1098 Preamp in Stereo Bypass Mode --> Rotel RMB-1095 Amp (200W x 5) --> B&W 703's ... with Synergistic Research Ative Shielded Cables, PurePower 1050 and RGPC1200. I have 3000 CD's stored in WMA Lossless and using WMP for Playback. NOW... I'm looking for the best converter to use to go from WMA Lossless to WAV. I'm going to post this question separately as well... ANY recommendations are always welcome! Thanks, Kelton
  11. Thank you Bruce! If it's good enough for Puget Sound Studios, it's certainly good enough for me. I'll order one on Monday. Best regards, Kelton
  12. Several Months seems like a very long time to wait... I guess they haven't perfected it yet. I'd need a single XLR Config - I wonder if they have made one of those yet or if it would be trial and error like yours. Cost??? Just trying to get an idea. I think the Straightwire cable will run between $270-$350 depending on length. It better be damn good for that price!
  13. What's the going rate for one of these cables and what's the easiest way to purchase one? Has anyone heard a cable that beats it? Thanks, Kelton
  14. Hello all, I was wondering what are our cable choices for Digital XLR Cables other than the "stock" Lynx cable. I found a local dealer who has been working with Straightwire to develop a couple of choices for a single cable coming off the card. Here's the info on their best cable: INFO-LINK digital cable is unsurpassed in its quest for musical perfection. Utilizing laboratory grade solid silver conductors with the highest grade Microporous Foam Teflon insulation, no other design approaches Info-Link captivating balance of rich resolution. Special digital phase-angle research and ultra high velocity of propogation make this special. There is no reference digital transmission without Info-Link. XLR! Are their other worthy choices??? I'm using Vista and going to the McIntosh MDA1000 DAC. (I haven't bought the sound card yet, but it seems to be one of the best choices out there... if I should consider others, please let me know). Thanks for the help!
