  1. Great: I'm relieved - I've already spent a couple of months on it and was dreading having to start over. I don't do anything else on the computer while it's ripping so should be OK on that score. Thank you both very much for your advice. I'll get it all on there whilst researching my playback options. On which there may be further questions...
  2. Hi. I'm very new to all this so apologies if the answer to this is obvious and/or elsewhere on the website (although I have searched and I can't see it). I'm ripping my CDs to iTunes in AIFF using the original disk drive in my 2006 MacBook (and storing the music on an external hard drive). Is the quality of the "recording" from the CDs less than it could be because (a) the disk drive is old and possibly worn and/or (b) disk-drive technology has improved since 2006 and the "recording" quality is now better than it was then? My limited IT knowledge says that all the disk drive is doing is registering 0s and 1s and as long as it does that accurately, which it seems to be doing as there is no obvious problem with the "recorded" music such as track skipping etc, the playback quality should be no different between music "recorded" using an old 2006 or a new 2012 disk drive. Is that right, or am I wasting my time and should hold off ripping any more CDs until I get a new computer (and then also rip the ones I've already done again)? Thanks so much.
