  1. NPR All Songs Considered, also NPR Tiny Desk Concert Larry
  2. I do it with an equalizer. I have one input (from CAPS like server) and one RCA out to my Amp, and another RCA out from the TAPE out to the headphone amp. I got tired of moving the cable to switch between the two. I'm very pleased. I suspect many will ixnay on adding a equalizer. That could be another long thread. Larry
  3. Maybe it's because of the business I'm in, but I define compression as fitting everything that is there into a smaller space. Zip files, Flac files etc., or as we call it lossless. MP3's and the like conflate data. They, arguably, with intelligence, throw out data to make the file smaller. So why aren't MP3 referred to as conflated ? Arguably, I could be considered one with little intelligence writing about such a trivial peve! Larry
  4. I cannot get WASAPI Event Style or ASIO or Kernal Streaming to put out any sound to the Bi-Frost DAC. I have tried all the suggestions here. WASAPI does sound pretty darn good, so I do not know if I am missing anything. I kinda figured all new hardware+MC would support these. I guess this is not an issue with new tech, likely the Bi-Frost just doesn't like it, although the manufacture says it should not be a problem. Anybody know where the support for these needs to be? I can select it in MC, outside of that, I do not see these listed on any other devise or in any other config. Even if it sounds worse , I'm compelled to know why why why. Regards, Larry
  5. Thanks. I also leave the Dacs on so reboots have it on. I tried the opposite and still doesn't work. I mailed Jason at schiit. He reports should work set at 32 bit. Doesn't for me. He also said they use wasapi pull. Not sure what That means. larry
  6. I exchanged three or four emails directly with Jason in a two day period Email is what they like (and I realize that is what you used). Ultimately they didn't help fix my xp problem, but responsiveness was terrific. Larry
  7. Hey Thanks for the advise. I'll copy post to Bi-Frost thread. I have re-installed the drivers and re-booted several times. I can't ignore the JRiver message because it refuses to play with any of those settings. Bi-Frost sounds like a great lead. Thanks much.
  8. None do. Regular WASAPI is all I can get to work. Set up is JRiver v18 running on a new CAPS like PC using Intel MB and core I3 processor 16 gig of mem. Drive is SSD. OS is Win 8 Pro. Audio goes out USB to a Schiit Bi-Frost DAC. Using the Schiit provided driver. JRiver reports something is wrong, go to dsp and adjust output settings. Sounds with WASAPI is really good, but am frustrated that with all new gear, I cannot use any of the Bit perfect modes. So, even if using these does not improve sound, this weenie insists he wants it to work! Any idea's? Larry
  9. I have been doing lots of homework on the i7 based caps server. I definitely want to replace my Playstation as the video server, but the primary need is for a bit perfect transport. I own the Schiit BiFrost DACs. Since this async DACs has its own clock does the SOtM tX-USBexp precision oscillator USB card add any benefits to me? I also can use a brief explanation of why a sound card is needed when from what I understand what you really want to do is pass data out the USB port and not let the audio card muck anything. I'm pretty sure the answer will embarrass me and my lack of understanding of these things but what the hay, better to learn something! thanks larryrup
