  1. Bach: Works for Harpsichord - Vol. III. Gripping performances by Hans Pischner. Fine Redbook sound from a Qobuz download.
  2. Bach: Sonatas & Partitas for Violin Solo. Augustin Hadelich plays with energy, expressiveness, and astounding control. Excellent sound from a Qobuz 24/192 download.
  3. The Borodin Quartet plays Borodin's Quartet no. 2 and Shostakovich's Quartet No. 8. Detailed early stereo (1962) DECCA sound from a 24/96 High Definition Tape Transfers download.
  4. Bac;h: Leipzig & Schuebler Chorales, Canonic Variations. Played unhurriedly by James Johnstone. A 16/44 Qobuz download. The 1737 Trentmann organ sounds at times just a bit nasal. Of course, no timpani involved, in spite of the cover art.
  5. Bach: Goldberg Variations. Peter Watchorn (harpsichord). Not just another Goldberg. Excellent sound, too. A 16/44 Qobuz download.
  6. I’m not keen on experimenting with various configurations, so I replaced my Lush^2 with a Lush^3, both “as shipped”. In my system, there is no question that the Lush^3 sounds much more detailed and natural. The difference is not subtle. The Lush^3 is simply an outstanding achievement as is.
  7. Interesting that although our systems are different we seem to have had the same baffling problem and solution following a power cut (see my posts above). Keep fingers crossed . . .
  8. Thanks. Will do, but please see also my reply to Alex in the Uptone. Forum.
  9. Yes, so strange that it borders on the IMPOSSIBLE, or so I thought. So I got to work on this thought and at one point was able to reproduce the problem with the ultraRendu powered by the Uptone brick. Which leaves me to conclude that the issue lies not with any Uptone or Sonore equipment, but with the WiFi network. Why should this be a problematic link after working without a glitch for six years? At first I thought the power cut may have damaged the router or the WiFi bridge. So, I reconnected the Uptone LPS-1.2 to the ultraRendu and tried again. It played beautifully all files, including DSD (in DoP format). It has been playing just fine since 9:00 pm last evening uninterruptedly. Which could not happen, presumably, if anything was damaged by the power cut. Correlation is not causation! as I used to tell my graduate students. So, for now I have to assume that something temporary happened to the WiFi. If the problem should happen again, I may have to consider running a long Ethernet cable from my upstairs office to the ground floor music room, which I'm reluctant to do given that we live in a 1906 house the walls of which are full of surprises. But it was great to to talk to you, Alex. Thank you so much for all your prompt attention to this confusing issue. I'll keep you posted on any developments.
  10. It was a pleasure talking with you on the phone. And congratulations on the new deck! We have a big one here that needs some basic structural work so I can feel your pain with replacing the old one. The etherREGEN is definitely innocent. But the source of the problem appears to be the LPS-1.2. I removed the latter from the chain and powered the ultraRendu from the Uptone brick and DSD played with no problem at all. So it seems that the sudden power cut and equally sudden re-power (surge?) did something bad to the LPS-1.2. Strange, though, that it affects only DSD files. Everything else, including 24/192 stuff plays fine. Where do we go from here?

  12. [I am posting this on both the Sonore and Uptone threads as it involves both manufacturers' equipment] Here is my digital chain: modem, NAS, and WIN 10 desktop, all plugged into router. From router, WiFi bridge to Uptone etherREGEN (CAT6a) switch powered from Uptone "brick", to Sonore ultraRENDU (CAT6a) end point powered from Uptone LPS-1.2 energized from Uptone "brick", to Benchmark DAC 2D (Phasure Lush^2). Playback (Squeezelite) controlled with SqueezePad on iPad Air) Everything worked perfectly until yesterday when the local utility suddenly cut power for about two minutes. When power came back, nothing worked and multiple attempts to restore the system were unsuccessful. Eventually, power cycling everything starting from the DAC backward did succeed in restoring music. HOWEVER, attempting to play DSD files (DoP encapsulated) resulted first in bricking everything again and later in "playing" music (as shown from progress in SqueezePad) but with no sound. Every other file plays fine. The DAC diagnostics seem OK (see below) Jesus R., Alex C., anyone else? Any suggestions for fixing this issue will be greatly appreciated.
