  1. OK, I was able to find a PDF invoice for my order. Unfortunately it has no prices on it, and it doesn't show the various perks. Are those available somewhere? I could probably pick out what I did from a list. Anyway the invoice shows: Wave Player 64 (pretty sure I perked up from the 32) Jitter-Free Wave Wifi Jitter-Free Wave Bluetooth I think there was some kind of DAC upgrade in there also. I'd estimate my investment at $400? That was a lot for me 5 years ago. Feel free to add this to your sheet. I'm not too inclined to pursue it further as my personal belief is that the money's gone and no hardware will be forthcoming. Although if I hear they are shipping I might change my mind.
  2. Wow, can't believe this is still going on. I'm not sure what info I still have about my order, but I'm unclear about the nickname stuff, do you mean like my screen name here? My indiegogo account has been deleted a few years ago, and there was some update I did when LHL switched to a new system, but I think that was all years ago. I'm going to see what info I can find about my order. Are you mainly looking for a dollar amount here? Ironically, I can log in to Amazon and see my order history all the way back to 2006.

Finally had some more time to play with this. Decided to try Moode Audio, and got it up and running in a shorter amount of time than it took to download. Currently using it with Airplay, and I may continue to do so (have to convert FLACs or figure something else out). Anyway, Moode Audio is highly recommended!

Yeah, it doesn't seem likely that the card is actually bad. There seems to be issues with the wifi in the OS that are maybe not updated as quickly with the audio distros I have been trying to use (vs Raspbian) and I may be coming up against that. Unrelated: I have attended (spectated) the spring vintage festival at Road America a number of times.

Nope, nothing special with the router. Last night I got out an old Airport Express that hasn't been used in 2 years and got it connected instantly, and that was downstairs from the router, while the Pi was in the same room. So for now I'm using iTunes/Airplay, although I'm not sure I will continue since I don't like having to have iTunes running all the time, and my hard drive is not big enough for my library, and I would have to convert all my FLACs to ALAC (iTunes current library is all lossy versions for syncing to an iPod). Max2Play provides various audio solutions, including LMS and gmediarender. LMS is obvious for Squeezebox style stuff, and my understanding is that gmediarender allows the Pi to act as a DLNA renderer. I have both LMS and MinimServer on my NAS, and they can be switched on and off easy enough, but I never even got that far, since wifi is going to be required regardless of the setup I use. I checked out Moode and it doesn't seem to be significantly different than other MPD players like Volumio or Rune (same concept, anyway). I may try it out at some point, but my next step is going to to be to go through NOOBS and see if I can get Raspbian Jessie running and accessing my network through wifi. If that doesn't work I will assume the Pi is defective. FWIW, I also tried Rune Audio last night, and it got to the point of scanning for wireless networks but never found anything.

Just spent another 3 hours messing with this and no closer to making anything work. I'm convinced the wifi on the RPi isn't going to work. Going back to CDs for now while I regroup and figure out my next step.

It's a pretty new router (Linksys WRT1900AC). I'll play with the settings tonight and see if it changes anything. I think I had it set that way to work better with an Apple TV that I was using for a bit. The microRendu looks OK, but the price is way more than I want to spend. Additionally, I don't have a USB DAC so that would be an additional cost. Sort of the same thing with Roon: looks pretty good, but I don't own anything to use it with, and the pricing is not ideal for me. This is not to say I'm opposed to spending the money if I think it's necessary, but there's a bunch of stuff I already have that might/might not work, and if I decide to switch to something else, that stuff has to get sold first.

Did you have to change the authentication at all to get it to work? My router is set on "WPA2/WPA Mixed Personal" currently, but it could be WPA2 Personal, WPA2 Enterprise, etc...

MinimServer is running currently on my NAS, no problems with that at all. I'm trying to use the RPi as a player for that. Max2Play is like a GUI interface for installing various extensions or whatever onto the Pi. So the problem I'm having is with the wifi setup on the Pi. In Max2Play you are (as far as I can tell) supposed to enter your wifi info (find the network, enter the password), save changes, turn off the Pi, unhook the LAN cable, and then restart, and it will connect to the wifi. When I do that, it gives me a message about "No IP" after entering the info and saving, and then it never connects. I have a number of other wifi devices on this network without problems, which leads me to believe this is something specific to the Pi (I already changed the channel from 11 to 3 because it didn't see the wifi at all with it set on 11). Without wifi, this is sort of useless, as I don't have a LAN connection where this is going to be connected.

Well, this is not working out too well so far. I got a RPi 3 and and HiFiBerry Digi+, and I'm trying to get Max2Play to work, but the WLAN interface is positively useless and will not actually connect (or even see my wifi network most times). This is the same problem I had with the previous Pi I tried to do this with. I think it's about time for me to give up completely on the Pi... either I'm too stupid to make the thing work, or I have extraordinarily bad luck. I am quite tired of messing around with this. I believe the answer will be Sonos at this point.

I'm going to give this a go I think. There seems to be a large amount of support for using the Pi as a replacement for a Squeezebox, so I will try that out.

Agreed! I very much wish I had kept it now. But at the time, I wanted the $350 that I got for it on eBay more. I may try to find one used.

They are Pi 1 but not sure of the version (I have 2).

OK, let me try to address these in a single post rather than responding to each one individually. Sonore/Roon: Looks interesting. Would prefer not to have to add more hardware in between the NAS and the endpoint though. MinimServer etc: I have played with this before. However I was running it on my NAS so I probably wouldn't switch over to running on a Pi. Also, I don't have anything Android to use as a control point. Rasbperry Pi: I couldn't ever get it to do what I wanted. I tried numerous times to use them as Squeezeboxes or running Volumio etc, and they never seemed reliable enough. ie, constant crashing or requiring me to login and input commands. I had a Wolfson DAC card that none of the software supported. The wireless connection would stop working. I don't care for the remote software. Based on all of this, I am highly reluctant to spend any more money trying to work with the Pi. JRiver: I have tried this before and didn't really care for the interface. And I don't want to run a computer specifically for music, I want to use my NAS. Foobar: I will have to look into this more.
  15. In the past I had: Squeezebox Touch (sold when Logitech quit on Squeezebox, liked otherwise), then a Denon network audio player (sort of clunky), and then I tried to use various Raspberry Pi based solutions without success. Currently I have a Plex setup but it seems really buggy for audio (FLAC doesn't play in the browser, artwork is wonky, server doesn't seem to work reliably, takes days for new music to be recognized, etc). So I'm looking for a new source/server/whatever. What I have currently: AAC/MP3/FLAC (some high res) stored on a QNAP NAS Roku 4 to Schiit Modi (optical) to amp (main system) SoundMate crappy thing to Fiio USB DAC to amp (office) Roku 2 to SMSL Q5 pro (basement gaming system) Ubuntu desktop to amp (3.5 analog cable) All of these are wireless. I'd like to settle on a single server/server type and be able to control it from an iPad/web browser. A DLNA server would work but I've had trouble finding a good control point app for the iPad. Any suggestions? What would you do?
