  1. It was the speaker setting in my windows media player. Go figure,,,,, Thanks for all the tips.
  2. Thanks for the tips. I had to select the Solo unit in my WMP speaker settings tab. Im a moron when it comes to computer stuff!! Now my KRK sound fantastic! Cant believe they didn't work connected straight to the pc. Thank goodness for this M Audio unit.

  4. Tried everything you suggested and still no sound. ??? I am using the 1394 cable that came with the unit and it is pluged up to the rear port on my pc and in the #1 port on the unit. There is a blue power light on and I am using TRS to XLR ballanced cables. I disable the Realtec sound manager. Is there possibly a setting in my computer I need to look for or is there something on the control panel that you bring up for the unit, that I need to look at? I alson tried connecting the 1394 wire to the front port and nothing. There is another type of 1394 cable that came with the unit, I will try that one next.
  5. Just got my Solo today and hooked it up per instructions, loaded drivers but there is no sound. I read through the cd maunal but none of it really makes sence to me. I only purchased this unit to connect my KRK 6G2 monitors to for good listening. I don't intend to use any of the midi parts of the unit. When I connect via fire wire does that bypass the onboard pc sound manager? My computer uses an Realtec sound manager and everytime you plug in a speaker in the back or plug in your headphones up front the manager comes up and tells you that you are connected and such but not when I connected the Solo via firewire. Is there a setting somewhere I am missing? I checked the device manager and it shows the Solo is installed and has up to date drivers. I checked the settings on the realtec audio manager and there were some settings for digital out and spdif so I checked those but still no sound. Any one have any suggestions?
  6. Yes, I have a M Audio Firewire Solo in the mail. I purchased it used off of ebay for $85 + shipping. Hopefully the speakers will sound better connected to this unit. Maybe I can finally use those Senns 595s I got a few weeks ago.
  7. Thanks for the info. When I was searching around for speakers I couldn't find any helpful information on what exactly I needed to set up a set of KRKs so I just went and bought them, pluged them in and whala,,,,crap! Anyway, I have them directly connected to my rear audio ports. I had initially thought the same as you, that the speakers were not getting a good enough push from my sound card. So I searched around and was told to get a DAC/AMP but because I just spent $$ for the speakers the wife said "NOT NOW" to my requests for an external soundcard/amp. And the volume only goes as high as the windows media players volume control which I thought was pretty low for these speakers. I posted my issue on another forum and was asked how exactly did the speakers sound and my reply was: When playing ROCK/Heav Metal - all you hear up front is guitars, everything else , including the vocals are far away in the back ground and sound like they are inside a tinroof arena. And for Smooth Jazz you can hear one instrument up front the rest are again in the far background and sound "tinish". So, what do you think I need to add to make these speakers sound better than the Logitecs? A DAC? or a standalone internal sound card?
  8. Hello, I purchased a set of KRK Rokit 6G2 speakers for my new computer. I have had them for 4 weeks BUT they sound like sh#*! I tried using a pink noise generation program, playing it continuosly for two days and even tried a couple different music cds but the speakers still sound like crap. They sound muffled and you can hardly hear the vocals, if you turn the system up to try and hear the vocals the sound just gets worse. I hooked up my kids new Logitech Z2300s and they sound really good. The KRKs are Biamped monitor speakers with kevlar woofers. I have read that all kevlar speakers need a burn-in period before they will sound good but they sound so bad I cant bear to listen to themj long enough to get through a burn-in perioid if one is required. My pc specs are; Core i7 920 on a gigabyte x58 board with realtec 889 sound. My headphones I hook up in the front ports sound really good as well. What can I do?? Are the speakers broke? I dont think I can return them to The Guitar Center, think they said I would have to send the speakers to KRK for warranty stuff.
  9. I just found an "older version" Total AirHead amp for $60. Is that a amp and dac?
  10. Yeah I have looked at those and they have good reviews. Just need to find one closer to my budget. I have priority things I need and this dac/amp issue is not on that list, however I still am trying to find a place for it on our (family) list : - ) . The less it costs the less CRAP I have to take from the LOML. HA!
  11. I just bought a good set of active monitor speakers (KRK 6G2s). They sound great. I guess I could hook up my phones to them? I will look around for the 202 dac you were talking about. As a side note; I miss merry old England! I was stationed at RAF Mildenhall from 1991-1997. Great place. My family and I went to the Banham Zoo carboot every weekend. Fabulous stuff. I always told myself that if I could, I would retire in England. But Airforce retirement and family matters didn't let that work out :-( .
  12. Yeah, I have been reading alot of stuff on HeadFi. Guess I will run over to Frys electronic store, plug in my cans and see how they sound. Thanks for the info.
  13. I had been toying with the idea of buying a used receiver but was under the impression that it would be no better than the on-board sound in my pc? Im not to familiar with dac chips but from what I have read there are MANY! To many to make a guess at which ones make up a good dac unit. I found several dac/amp units on ebay for around $60, just don't know if they are any good enogh or not, and they are small, so I don't see how they could effectively run a set of Seens?
  14. Hello, was wondering if anyone has a suggestion for a recession priced dac/amp. I'm no audiophile though I do appreciate good sound. I recently purchased a set of Sennheiser HD 595s and I have a new pc with on-board sound ALC889A. Not looking to spend alot. Actually, the least spent the better. :-). I do not expect audiophile quality from a one dollar dac but looking for somewhere around the $100 mark should suffice. I did a look on ebay and there are lots of kits available that look like all you need is a case but I have no idea how to put a kit together. I would try if I new the difficulty level. Anyone have a suggestion on building one? Thanks.
