  1. I've updated my TS-259+ without a problem, but first it had been updated to 4.1.1 I did have a similar 'bricking' about a year ago, but you should be able to 'massage' it back into life by trying different things as long as it shows some form of life - beeps, led lights. Here is the recovery guide and good luck: Firmware Recovery - QNAPedia
  2. Found this today: How Much Power Do My Speakers Need? Very layman explanation, allowed me to calculate in my head if my speakers not under/over powered.
  3. +1 and btw, my latest iPhone IS my high end system, oh wait, it also belongs to the company I work for ;-)
  4. I tried volumio too, but it is not very user friendly. I also found it to be quite a sluggish. May be Bluesound Node is next thing to try.
  5. I think, that's because music is THE GOD and you do not listen to it just with your ears, you listen to it with your heart. All this equipment, digital or analog is nice, but I'd listened to a very bad reception on my dad's radio, when I was young, and enjoyed it all the same. It seems lots of people here making their equipment their God. Like so many religions of the past and present, they loose what it is all about. I do feel I do not belong here and not an audiophile, because I just love music in any form, format or place.
  6. I'm not sure what seem to be the problem, but I just use Airport Express(1st get), enable AirPlay in it: Connect its optical out to DAC, then in iTunes select it: and press play. It will do it over Ethernet without any problems. Has been doing it, since 2004, can't believe my music was flowing to them(yes I have multiple) for over 10 years! It is fun to read about all the other different solution and devices, I even tried a few, but AirportExpress has been my favorite. AppleRemote app on iPhone/iPad - imho, I find it to be excellent.
  7. Bluesound has nothing to do with Sonos, and it does have optical out, so you can bypass its dac. "reclocker" will not fix what most likely the underpowered CPU in your Synology and in what scenario do you get Synology hiccups?
  8. Let's see who gets this: https://encyclopediadramatica.es/Audiophile My personal favorite from this entry the "Mullard tube ad" on the right
  9. "...and the supplied IR remote..." taken from http://nadelectronics.com/products/dac/C-510-Direct-Digital-Preamp-DAC
  10. The one that assured me, there is nothing wrong with it, was only you. Up until now on forums I've encountered two other people that experienced "the extra hiss" they are probably overblowing and nitpick too. I do agree that it does sound incredible when there is no hiss. I wish I could compare it to another unit, but there is no stores in NYC where I can go and do it. BTW, I did not mean to stir trouble, I just wanted to convince myself to buy it again, since I did like the sound and the versatility of it.
  11. Did jRiver upconversion to DSD feeding it to Micro-iDSD - sounds the same to my ears. Real DSD files do sound different, can't really say they sounds better, more like different to me. My ears are probably aren't tuned to it. Just like Al M. - I'm "I am a music lover first, and audiophile second." When it comes to DSD vs. PCM, I think there is a lot to process here: Q&A with Thorsten Loesch of AMR/iFi Addendum: PCM vs DSD | AudioStream
  12. I think as long as you keep it about "iFi micro iDSD" it is both. Since iFi makes these little boxes, call them iCan, mini, micro, they are very headphone oriented. Lot's of them, including the Micro iDSD, have RCAs, so it is quite easy to connect to the main system, which I did too.
  13. It happened on my MacBookPro 15"/SSD, so no special driver. This is still a minor issue, considering the hiss.
  14. To hear the hiss, for me - it has to be in Bit-Perfect filter with 44.1-88kHz files, 96kHz or higher the noise is not audible. DSD is also clear of it. I had a really long session with just iTunes->Micro->NAD HP50 headphones and it is hard to describe, but there where a few clicks/static plops in a middle of songs, mostly quiet jazz and classical. I'm pretty sure wouldn't notice it with rock. I wouldn't expect it needs to resync in a middle? When I heard them I went back and "re-wind" 15 seconds back to make sure it is not my files, and second time it was clean. This has never occurred with iTunes->Dragonfly-NAD HP50, and I've spent many hours listening.
