  1. "even on a very basic DAC" So someone is surprised by the quality of RME conversion...? RME doesn't get the mojo hype other brands get. But once you sit down even with a Babyface FS you'll notice that these things sound very good. There is a reason RME are ubiquitous in classical recording and broadcast contexts. It's not only their reliability, it's also that they sound good.
  2. Get yourself to audition a pair of Amphion's - either 7Ls or Two18s. For the money you are willing to spend maybe even the Kryptons. Musical and detailed speakers.
  3. Geez, it's been a while and I thought MQA was a thing of the last decade. But apparently MQA is like a Zombie, animating those it bites. The JA's from Stereophile among them. Crazy that they are willing to burn their reputation at this rate by sticking with the bloating corpse MQA is these days - espc. after what Golden Sound pulled off (mad props GS!!). Which begets the question why? Contracts? Probably not. Posturing? Probably yes. They signal the industry that they can reliably campaign even in the face of strong opposition. Important for an industry that needs shills and needs shills that shill not matter what. Marching on even after headshots. Respect.
  4. Design is hideous. Linn used to have very slick Bauhaus design. The new Klimax is looks cheap with the silly gold bling and no sense of proportions. Pitty. Wondering about the chips used. AKM 4499 or AKM 4498/4191?
  5. Move over Bob, here's how to do compression right: 48khz audio on a Commodore 64 - http://brokenbytes.blogspot.com/2018/03/a-48khz-digital-music-player-for.html
  6. Column browser is back in the latest Catalina beta!
  7. The reputable German computer mag c‘t did an MP3 hearing test ca. 2006 where they had one participant with a very high success rate. Turned out he had a hearing damage and he was able to identify certain phasing artifacts of MP3 encoders. If I am not mistaken the person also worked in the audio field, perhaps on hearing aids. The test was done on professional equipment in a recording studio. Maybe some German reader can find the particular article.
  8. Colin Marston (is god some assert). Check him out, impressive catalogue, great guitarist and producer too.
  9. Be aware that the column browser is gone in the iTunes successor Music. Really sucks & I’ll pretty much have to switch to some other software now.
  10. I'd call the statement ambiguous - it might be that the Japanese market is viable for MQA. Onkyo did adopt MQA both in hardware and content distribution. It's a special market and big enough to generate revenue. Let' see what comes from this.
  11. Thx for having my little mind blown: "Ich fühle Luft von anderem Planeten."
  12. What a tease! More info pls!
  13. Do I get it right that the kinda dying MQA-debate is about to get a Neil Young-sized life-infusion? Fun! MQA PR-peeps perhaps are reciting the "there is no bad publicity"-mantra in group chants right now.
  14. Another option would be Passlabs XA25. Don’t let the 25w label fool you, these things have juice and can drive 803s well. Class A and great sound.
