  1. Ohm Walsh 5s are a tad over your budget but there are two upgraded pairs on the website that are worth a look. I have had mine for 18 years now and have no urge to replace them. Walsh 5 | Ohm Speakers | Custom Audiophile Speakers for Music & Home Theater Look for 2 in stock @ $5,500 per pair.
  2. Here is a more recent pic showing the Definitive Technology 6500s mounted to the posts.
  3. I've used Boston Voyager 7s and the Definitive Technology 6500s. They are a toss up as far as sound stage goes if you have them spaced optimally and are sitting in the sweet spot. The DT 6500s do spread the music around more away from the sweet spot area the way I have them set up. The Bostons cabinet is manufactured to a higher standard & the mounting brackets are more substantial. Binding posts on the Bostons are higher grade than on the DTs & set up better for connecting terminations IMO. I use smoker covers to reduce effects of UV light and precipitation.
  4. It is an odd little table. The pillows & curvy shapes might attract a cat... Design Within Reach dot com sold me the table years ago. I doubt it is still in production. Earlier pic without pillows and Cd player. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Yes, it is an FMJ CD23. I'm a big fan of Arcam gear.
  5. Outside/YARD During the Spring, Summer & Fall months I spend most of my time outside. The music follows me there....makes yard work much more fun. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Bel Canto REF500m, Ayre pre-amp, modded Belkin power distribution, PS Audio DAC & transport, Empirical Audio OR5, CIA linear power, Toshiba Portege R930 SSD. 6. Very happy with these...one single & one double.
  7. In series must be the incorrect terminology. The signal from the amps travels to the sub woofers first in a normal right/left wiring configuration then to the Walsh 5s The #6 refers to the number of drivers, two per enclosure, not impedance. I sent John the room dimensions and he recommended the extra sub drivers and custom crossovers. The sub cabinets and drivers were purchased from Ohm...apologies for the confusion.
  8. Ohm Walsh 5s are in series with 6 Ohm subwoofer drivers on the 2Ch side. Multi-Ch has 2 JL Audio Fathom 113s. Freq response 19-200Hz (+1dB / -3dB) JL Audio 113 Uploaded with ImageShack.us Ohm Subwoofer Cabinets Uploaded with ImageShack.us The other cabinet is facing the oppostie direction. No measurements have been taken. The JL subs are very musical...MVI recordings of Morph the Cat, The Nightfly or Kamakiriad get many hours of play here.
  9. The audio circuits in my home are 20A breakers on a dedicated run to the specific audio outlet. They may not be exhibit a superior sonic signature but they have to be safer given some of these power sources pull mucho amps. Oyaide R-1 outlets with aluminum frames and Cf panels are on the audio circuits. R-1 ????????????????????????????????oyaide? My main concern with regards to power is surge voltage as we experience numerous cloud to ground lightning strikes here. The Furman power station -8 has worked well both at home and and in the office. However, they should offer a replaceable MOV like some of the PS Audio products.
  10. Uploaded with ImageShack.us I use a BrickWall for the JL Audio subs and this Furman strip for the outdoor system electronics. I have a modded Belkin on the way to replace this strip. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Subs w/BrickWall Uploaded with ImageShack.us

  12. The cable I'm using was recommended by the manufacturer of the OffRamp5 USB to S/PDIF converter. Prophecy cry-silver 2.0 usb built by Revelation Audio Labs. It replaced a relatively inexpensive ($100) CryoParts cable. The cable is burning in along with some new amps.
  13. You might try Hi-Tech audio repair. Roland Barr serviced my old Carver amp last year with a chasis refresh and sonic upgrades. Hafler is on his list of servicable brands. Hi-Tech Audio Ltd. Just up the road from you in Oregon.
  14. My old stuff is outperforming the new stuff and I am confident I have screwed up the settings somehow. New Toshiba Portege R930 -Win 7, 256 SSD drive, i5 processor, JRiver via new Off Ramp 5 into PS Audio Digital Link III DAC with a full compliment of Cullen modifications is disappointing as an older Dell with iTunes via MF V-Link II into same DAC sounds better. The new hardware/software sounds like this description provided by 6th.replicant in an older post: I listened to 4 tracks of Fagens Morph the Cat and had to turn it off. JRiver Details: I ripped Redbook Cds & a few hybrids using JRiver at max speed. Later read that this was not a good idea, so I deleted a few files and re-ripped at 1x. This produced an awful sounding concocktion like when you play a 78 at 33.3 underwater. Ripped again at max speed and the files played fine. Encoding = uncompressed Wave. 15. Thanks for the prompt reply. I was unsure where to obtain the metadata for the rips. I downloaded the trial for JRiver and now the metadata issue is solved. I may try dpPoweramp for ripping. Thanks Peter. As a long time iTunes user I was aware of the ripping of Cds into files. iTunes is kinda idiot proof so when I encountered a different player/ripper I was dismayed/confused when the track info etc. was absent. Empirical Audio also lists JRiver as an acceptable player for the OffRamp so I'm experimenting with that one now. I am ripping to WAV & it's eating my SSD space up but so far the fidelity is outstanding. Agreed...JRiver imo is worth the price of admission. Thanks for all of the helpful advice. /kenny
