  1. Not only is it analog out only, from what I've read there are no outputs other than amplified ones.
  2. Paul, I think you have me confused with the original poster. My imac is not hooked up to anything directly.
  3. First of all, Flacs work fine with Macs, just not with itunes, with a few exceptions like Audirvana plus. Secondly, I usually don't listen to the music from a mac directly, the imac where the music is stored is located in an office, not anywhere I'd use it directly. 99% of the time, I'm listening through one of my Squeezeboxes. Rarely, I'll use my macbook to play through some one else's system, Audirvana works fine for that. If my squeezebox dies at some point, then I may need to transcode to something easier to use with the mac directly. Thanks for your suggestions though.
  4. Why would I need to do it? My current system works fine. Why should I buy another HD and tie up my computer when I have no real reason to transcode to Apple lossless?
  5. I guess that would work, but I'm not about to transcode over 50k songs at this point.
  6. Are you talking about leaving copies of both FLAC and AIFF/ALAC on the server? If not, the Oppo won't do apple lossless through DLNA, if so, it would take up way too much room. No way I'd ever go back to windows again. I have my Flac library on a 2TB external drive hooked up to an imac that I run LMS on. I have copies of my favorites in Flac on my macbook that I can play using Audirvana. I use XLD to transcode to MP3 into itunes for iphone usage, using my macbook. I like it this way because it's easy to separate my Flac library from the MP3s.
  7. For me it was the ability to stream via DLNA to my Oppo and to use my Squeezebox.
  8. Playback works well and runs in the background.
  9. There's absolutely no doubt that the Touch was discontinued a few weeks ago.
  10. Just got a pair of T50s, they are very light and comfortable.
  11. The problem with putting Flacs on portable devices is the limited storage capacity. I tried those apps using DLNA streaming. I have LMS (logitech media server) running on an imac for my Squeezebox. It has a DLNA mode, the flac players pick up the files through that. I also tried it with Playback, an inexpensive DLNA server for OSX. What appeals to me is using something like this in conjunction with a portable, wireless hard drive like the Seagate Satellite GoFlex, a 500GB, battery powered device that streams via it's own wifi network.
  12. 8player- free lite version works, but only 5 tracks at a time. AcePlayerPro- was free yesterday, a little slow, but works
  13. UEMusicLibrary is the new LMS replacement. It won't work with the old hardware, except a SB Radio after a firmware upgrade. It doesn't stream directly from your server to the player though, the player puts in a request to a cloud server and UEML sends the file from your server to the cloud. The new system will not work without an internet connection.
