  1. I have an Intel 11 i9 11900 and an RTX 3060 with overclocking ability. Has anyone knowledge of filter performance gains by overclocking? And if so, what functions to concentrate on.

  3. We've looked into cutting the cord. We don't watch that much TV anymore with the exception of the kids. The one thing that keeps me tied is sports. I love college football and basketball and you can't watch that without having a substantial cable package. The one thing I wanted to suggest is looking at your cell phone plan. LTE in our area is running about 7mbs. On the occasion that cable goes out or we're traveling, I've used the hotspot feature on the iphone and streamed hd without glitches.
  4. I've purchased new equipment and found it unlistenable when first employed. When that happens, I put 200 hrs on it without listening at all during the burn in period. So my brain isn't adjusting to anything during that time ( with the exception of slight buyers remorse). The only difference between 15 minute listening periods is the time between the periods. I'm a believer because that's been my experience.
  5. I've been using a FiiO X3 as a standalone player (it has a decent dac chip and headphone amp) and as a transport for my headphone set up. It has coax out that I feed to a Dacmagic. It's an inexpensive (relatively) way to play hi res files.
  6. Soundtrack, My go to headphone set is the HD600. I use it with a Channel Islands Audio headphone amp that's in a stationary set up. When I'm mobile, I use the FiiO X3 player. It has a decent High Gain circuit which supplies as much volume as I ever need. It also plays up to 24/196 files. I also use the FiiO as a hi res transport in my home system. Good luck in your search.
  7. Benchmark DAC2 HGC-$1995.00, Sennheiser HD800-$1499.00, Musical Fidelity Transport MI CDT $999.00, $500 left for 24/196 downloads.

  9. I bought a used i170 from Ebay. The wall wart is troublesome, I upgraded the power supply, but you can find those now very reasonably priced.
  10. Hello and welcome, In one of my setups, I use an Asus Xonar Essence with an spdif interface to the DAC and manage that with JRiver. Chris wrote an excellent tutorial on using this setup and I found this transport to rival cd transports at much less cost. Good luck with your search for superb sound! John
  11. Joe, In my kitchen set-up, I use an HRT istreamer. It's a DAC that uses the digital signal of the ipod and outputs 16/44.1. I rip lossless to my iphone and it sounds great. Spotify sounds better also. I've used it in my vehicle at times on trips. At the office, I have a Wadia transport that outputs a digital signal from the ipod to an external DAC. Again, sounds much better than stock ipod.
  12. Drewtt, I'm running the STX Essense to a Digital Link III with the Cullen Mods. Found it on Audiogon for around 700.00. It is worlds better than using the card DAC. I also have a Musical Fidelity X-Dac with the PSU that I found for less than 500.00. Again, worlds better. I think you'll be amazed at what a difference a quality DAC can make. And if you don't mind used, you can get a lot for your money.
  13. I was reading the beginning of this thread trying to come up with an answer using my experience with Hi Def video and Hi res audio. I love Hi def video. I was an early adopter when almost no broadcasts were hi def. But basically, to get hi def video, I bought a TV and the cable box supplied the occasional hi def signal. Basically the same today, except I have a bluray added to the mix. The point is, it was plug and play. Hi res audio is a very different animal as far as ease of use. I have spent a lot of time and money configuring different programs, windows and sound cards. I am now at my desk listening to a 96/24 recording of Stan Getz. Sounds wonderful, much better than CD in my opinion. But there was a much higher cost in time and research. Thankfully, I didn't have to figure that much out. I had Chris for that.
  14. "Are we to equate those who call themselves subjectivists with Christianity? Maybe so. They seem to share some things in common, like assumed moral superiority, belief in the palpably absurd and in imaginary entities, and a huge persecution complex." Interesting response in a thread titled civility.
